Intensive Housing and Substance Use Worker

Contract type: Fixed Term until 31st March 2026
As an Intensive Housing and Substance Use Worker, you will provide support for customers to access accommodation alongside substance use recovery and treatment options. You’ll create and deliver specialist support packages and housing plans to ensure that customers have access to appropriate accommodation, substance use treatment and support to maintain their accommodation and recovery. You’ll oversee a personal budget to use creatively - to overcome barriers to housing and treatment that customers may face.
Job requirements
* Be the lead in a customer’s support. Establish their risk, need and requirements, before coordinating essential accommodation, substance use services, mental health support and other relevant services depending on the customer’s needs.
* Advocate for the customer’s access into services, challenging any barriers and exclusions that they may face.
* Encourage their engagement in both internal and external services, and think creatively to come up with solutions to overcome a lack of engagement.
* As appropriate, work with customers to set, manage, and spend a personal budget to achieve the objectives set out in their support plan.
* Organise and chair multi-disciplinary team meetings with a range of professionals from relevant statutory, voluntary and community services, striving to achieve fair access and positive outcomes for customers.
* Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the local services available for people with multiple and complex needs.
What they’re looking for
* Educated to GCSE level and/or have a good level of maths and English.
* At least 2 years’ experience of supporting adults with complex needs such as substance use, homelessness, mental health, offending and other vulnerabilities.
* Experience working with confidential and complex information, following data protection laws.
* Managing complex and difficult situations in relation to people.
* Liaising with and co-ordinating the work of several individuals and/or agencies to achieve effective outcomes.
* Ability to manage a personal budget and use this innovatively.
* Have knowledge of working within professional boundaries, standards, and safeguarding practices.
* Great communication, problem-solving, organisation and time management skills, being able to prioritise high risk cases.
* Basic understanding of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.
* Ability to travel to multiple buildings with a full UK driving license and willingness to use own vehicle for business purposes, with business insurance.
* Ability to work flexibly including mornings, evenings and occasional weekends including bank holidays.
* DBS check.
