The Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC) is an Innovation and Knowledge Centre funded by EPSRC, Innovate UK and industry. CSIC develops cutting edge sensing and data analysis models to provide a powerful platform for delivering data to enable smarter whole-life asset management decisions, for both new infrastructure and existing assets. CSIC works in close collaboration with industry across policy, standards, and industry adoption to effect transformative change and deliver benefits to all stakeholders. Our collaborative work is helping to establish the UK as a global leader in sustainable smart infrastructure solutions. Sharing our knowledge, skills and information, is key to advancing industry adoption of innovative solutions coming from our research and other activities. We are seeking a Part-Time CSIC Industry Adoption Facilitator, based at our site in West Cambridge, who will facilitate this exchange through direct engagement with industry around a number of key CSIC outputs. In order to achieve this, you will be required to organise and implement a range of activities for CSIC and will work closely with all CSIC partners across academia and practice to foster collaborations around these key CSIC outputs. This is an exciting opportunity to maximise impacts from these outputs and lead the co-ordination of an industry level body that is driving forward an industry response to the Net Zero challenge and climate change. The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in an engineering or environmental science subject or have an equivalent level of experience and some research experience would also be desirable. You will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven problem-solving skills and initiative. Excellent writing skills are also required with the ability to draft complex documents and to write for varied external audiences. Experience of managing complex, cross-functional projects and delivering to deadlines is essential, together with a background working in an engineering or carbon management role within the infrastructure and construction sector, a construction procurement organisation, a policy organisation or government environment. Previous experience of event management including the organisation and delivery of training, webinars, seminars, workshops or large meetings is also a requirement for this role. The Making Smart Infrastructure Business as Usual Workshop, brought together infrastructure clients, consultants and policy makers to look at how smart infrastructure could be business as usual. Smart infrastructure solutions and data-centric engineering approaches bring many dimensions of value, but procurement and use of smart infrastructure solutions is still not business as usual. There are many individual examples of good practice, but adoption is still not widespread. This workshop looked at what is holding the sector back from realising the full value of smart infrastructure. The output is a discussion paper which lists recommendations for action.
