This role presents an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced leader. You will use your drive and vision to provide leadership and direction to the Enforcement team who target the greatest environmental offences across Herts and North London. The team undertake disruption operations, investigate suspected offences and deliver, specialist enforcement action for significant and serious cases of environmental crime, following a risk-based approach.
You will ensure your teams activities are risk assessed and that health, safety and wellbeing measures are central to everyday activities to minimise the risk of harm to Environment Agency staff and members of the public.
Enforcement Team Leaders ensure that their officers have the capability and resource to undertake their activities effectively working closely with the Senior officers to develop staff capabilities, confidence and professionalism. including ensuring staff have the right training and support. You will need to motivate individuals and the team collectively to deliver the desired outcomes of the Environment Agency. You will need to employ excellent performance management and 1:1 discussions to get the best out of your team members to deliver these outcomes in an effective way.
You’ll be responsible for driving the team to develop, implement and direct proactive operations to deter illegal activities and act as a conduit to ensure National teams and external partners are sighted on information and enforcement activity we are involved in.
Finally, you will be part of the Regulated Industry Leadership Team. Collectively, with other Team Leaders, you will provide the overall guidance and leadership for the Regulated Industry department.
The team
You'll join a dedicated Enforcement Team that tackles high priority and serious and organised waste crime, dealing with complex legislation that allows for a variety of enforcement options and increasingly using disruption techniques to offenders’ day to day activities. The team provide governance and support delivery of effective and efficient enforcement action in the Area. They also work with enforcement and intelligence colleagues across the organisation and routinely work with external enforcement bodies.

Essential criteria:
-Leadership skills and experience of leading others - ability to prioritise, work accurately and collaboratively with others to ensure delivery of tasks and actions
-Effective communication and influencing skills. You’ll be able to identify your audience, understand their needs, and use an effective and engaging style of communication
– Able to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work
- Can successfully build and maintain effective working relationships with dispersed customers internally and externally
- Able to manage multiple priorities and competing demands, solve problems and follow governance and procedure, recognising its importance for your team within a criminal investigation
Note: Experience in enforcement or regulation and criminal proceedings are desirable but not essential.
