Apprentice practitioner, responsible for caring for young children, planning activities, their health and hygiene, undertaking training to gain qualification.
The pay may be negotiated and may rise after a probation period has been successfully completed.
Training course: Early years practitioner (level 2)
Hours: Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. Shifts to be confirmed, usually working 4 days per week (40 hours a week).
Duration: 1 Year 3 Months
Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
* Training will be provided on an ongoing daily basis and when required.
* You will not be required to attend Dudley College premises as the course is delivered in the workplace only.
* An assessor will be allocated to you to progress/help you through your course.
* Continual assessments, coupled with assignments/or exams depending on course of study.
* Time spent training will be part of the agreed contracted hours of the working week.
* At the end of your training, you will sit an exam and submit coursework as part of your assessment, and you will receive a Level 2 qualification.
* English and maths qualifications form a mandatory part of all apprenticeships and must be completed before an apprentice can pass through the gateway.
* You will join a well-established team of practitioners, who will help to provide quality coaching and mentoring to achieve all of the requirements needed to achieve your qualification.
* You will receive additional training all paid for by the nursery.

Early years practitioner (level 2) - Equal to GCSE
Course contents
* Support babies and young children through a range of transitions.
* Recognise when a child is in danger, at risk of serious harm or abuse and explain the procedures to be followed to protect them.
* Identify risks and hazards in the work setting and during off-site visits.
* Demonstrate skills and understanding for the prevention and control of infection.
* Use equipment, furniture and materials safely, following the manufacturers’ instructions and setting’s requirements.
* Encourage children to be aware of personal safety and the safety of others.
* Promote health and wellbeing in settings.
* Carry out respectful care routines appropriate to the development, stage, dignity and needs of the child.
* Communicate with all children in ways that will be understood.
* Extend children’s development and learning through verbal and non-verbal communication.
* Work with colleagues to identify and plan enabling environments, activities, play opportunities and educational programmes.
* Observe children, assess, plan and record the outcomes.
* Support children’s early interest and development in mark making, writing, reading and mathematical learning.
* Work co-operatively with colleagues, other professionals and agencies to meet the needs of babies and young children.
* Encourage parents and/or carers to take an active role in the baby’s/child’s care, play, learning and development.

Requirements
GCSE or equivalent in:
* Maths & English Language (Grade D/3 or above)
