Main Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist the Assistant Headteacher (SLT) with the Educational Welfare and attendance across the school, working closely with the pastoral team (Deputy Heads of Year), Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSLs), and external agencies to improve attendance for all students.
* Conduct home visits to students in line with school policy, identifying reasons for non-attendance, and working closely with families and others to break down barriers to learning.
* Manage the process of addressing poor attendance across the school, organising meetings for vulnerable students and ensuring all external agencies and relevant staff are invited.
* Conduct weekly safe and wellness checks (home visits) for absent students with DDSLs.
* Monitor the attendance of the most vulnerable students, including Child Looked After students and those meeting the threshold for child protection.
* Liaise with pastoral staff to raise concerns/problems, ensure data accuracy, and assist with improving pupil attendance.
* Develop strong relationships with young people and their families to support and challenge, reducing non-attendance and exclusion from school.
* Develop attendance action plans for individual students with specific attendance concerns.
* Prepare professional reports and contribute to meetings with the Pastoral team concerning individual students.
* Liaise with the Senior Leadership Team to address attendance or welfare concerns.
* Undertake Attendance interviews in school with individual students and external agencies.
* Communicate effectively with parents through phone, letter, and home visits.
* Provide evidence to support Local Authority cases and meetings where poor attendance has reached the level of legal intervention.
* Support families experiencing hardship by increasing awareness of external support agencies.
Attendance Management:
* Support the Assistant Headteacher with the development of high-quality school attendance and welfare provision.
* Manage data from the Student Absence line, recording accurate information and planning absence calls to parents/carers.
* Maintain the daily attendance spreadsheet, updating Pastoral Team and DDSLs with any safeguarding concerns.
* Review and manage daily registers, communicating with Teachers where support is required.
* Compile and manage Leave of Absence requests and provide monthly reports to the Assistant Headteacher.
* Coordinate the attendance process for mid-year admissions.
* Analyse and produce standard attendance reports.
* Manage the SOL tracker and liaise with relevant internal and external parties.
* Manage the process of all Student Leavers, Children Missing in Education (CME), and Elective Home Education (EHE) students.
* Manage the end-to-end process of Early Help Assessment (EHA) intervention.
* Arrange and hold Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) meetings with recommended plans to support students.
* Maintain confidential records of support for all students.
Safeguarding:
* Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (including Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection policies.
* Assist with ensuring all staff are up-to-date with the recording of Attendance information.
* Respect confidential issues linked to home/students/teacher following the Anthem Trust’s Data Protection Policy.
Promotion of Continuous Improvement:
* Support development initiatives to improve attendance management efficiency and effectiveness.
* Ensure compliance with the school’s Equal Opportunity Policy and actively promote equality and diversity.
* Undertake other duties that correspond to the general character of the post.
Other:
* Significant travel in and around the local area is required; a full driving licence and use of a vehicle are essential.
* Responsible for own professional development, identifying training needs, and requesting courses as appropriate.
