Job summary Due to reorganisation within the respiratory physiotherapy service, including the very recent addition of a new post, we are delighted to advertise the position of 'Highly Specialised Paediatric Physiotherapist in Complex Respiratory Care'. This is an exciting job role with a varied caseload across both acute and outpatient areas. The postholder will be well supported by an established respiratory team and would be suitable for an experienced band 6. Part time hours will be considered, and working from home will be included within the job timetable due to outpatient portion of the caseload. The postholder will join a growing team of paediatric respiratory and acute physiotherapists. The acute side of the job role is primarily working with our long-term ventilation (LTV) caseload. The outpatient portion of the role involves overseeing and managing a varied respiratory clinical caseload. The postholder will be both supported by the paediatric respiratory physiotherapy team which comprises of two band 8a physiotherapists (LTV and Breathing Pattern Disorders & Asthma), in addition to two band 7 respiratory physiotherapy colleagues based in LTV and paediatric intensive care (PICU). In addition, the postholder will be responsible for managing the band 6 on the complex respiratory rotation, who will share the respiratory caseload. Main duties of the job The post holder will be expected to have a high level of clinical skill and be able to work in the following clinical areas: o Respiratory Outpatients o Respiratory Physiotherapy Clinics o Paediatric Wards (for patients known to the respiratory outpatient service) o PICU (for patients known to the respiratory outpatient service, including LTV) o Neonatal Unit (infants with confirmed or suspected cystic fibrosis or primary ciliary dyskinesia) o Chest Clearance Clinic: This is a weekly clinic unique to St George's, ran jointly by the Physiotherapist (postholder) and Respiratory Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Referrals are received via our respiratory consultants for children presenting with a chronic cough, undergoing respiratory workup on the background of both complex and non-complex medical histories. Together with the ANP we offer treatment and management advice to these patients and provide follow up within a general respiratory clinic which is consultant led. o Bronchiectasis (Non-CF): This is a consultant led MDT clinic that runs on alternate months. o Additional specialist respiratory clinics: These are consultant led, MDT clinics which contain small, specialised caseloads and are consequently less regular in frequency, typically every other month. About us St George's Hospital is a tertiary centre for respiratory. This is an exciting and varied caseload which will require sound knowledge and experience in respiratory assessment and management. The postholder will work closely with medical, nursing and other colleagues to provide a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach. The post holder will participate in team meetings and training both within the department and for our colleagues internally and externally.
