Key responsibilities With supervision, manage the output of external solicitors to settle leases, licences and agreements for new and existing stores with third party landlords Assist with advising on issues arising from Screwfix’s existing estate portfolio such as licences for alterations, deeds of variation and disputes with adjoining occupiers and landlords Instruct, supervise and review output from external lawyers in managing deeds of variation and licences to alter and to a lesser extent delivering our ambitious new store opening programme efficiently and to deadline. Analyse key data in relation to legal and property situations to assess risk and takes steps to mitigate risk Control risk and compliance on a consistent and regular basis Work closely with external advisers, including panel firms and planning consultants Establish strong working relationships with senior Screwfix property solicitor, wider legal and property team plus other relevant business stakeholders to understand commercial objectives then provide high quality and relevant advice and other deliverables With training, become a subject matter specialist relating to planning law for our existing and new store portfolio Collaborate with business colleagues, participating in discussions and decision-making process for property, planning and construction matters Control risk and compliance on a continued and repeating basis Draft, advise on and negotiate property-related commercial agreements (e.g. licences to alter for our extensive annual store refresh programme) Preferably have some understanding of the legal differences between all jurisdictions within the United Kingdom and in the Republic of Ireland Required Skills & Experience Qualified solicitor with good technical knowledge of broad range of commercial property law Excellent academic record and training with a leading practice Good exposure during training period to challenging commercial real estate work with particular focus on landlord and tenant but also with an eagerness to learn and develop into wider practice areas of commercial property such as planning and construction law Regular experience of aligning commercial objectives with legal principles What’s in it for me?
