Exciting Opportunity for Highway Structures Maintenance Engineer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highway Structures Maintenance Engineer to join a busy and dynamic team in Derby. This position involves supporting the maintenance and asset management of various highway structures, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, footbridges, landslips, and rock faces, in accordance with the Highway Infrastructure Asset Management Plan for Structures.
As a Highway Structures Maintenance Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and accessibility of the highway network for all users. You will deputise for senior engineers when necessary, manage maintenance projects, mentor junior staff, and provide technical expertise and advice to both internal and external stakeholders.
The main duties of the Highway Structures Maintenance Engineer are:
1. Assist in the maintenance and asset management of highway structures, ensuring they are maintained in accordance with the Highway Infrastructure Asset Management Plan.
2. Support the Highway Authority's duties and responsibilities in maintaining safe highway access.
3. Deputise for senior engineers as required and manage structures maintenance projects.
4. Mentor and provide guidance to junior staff members.
5. Provide technical expertise and advice to colleagues and external parties, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety Executive (HSE) regulations, Construction Design and Management Regulations, and other statutory requirements.
6. Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure efficient project delivery and compliance with safety and quality standards.
The Highway Structures Maintenance Engineer will have key experience in:
1. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
2. Strong technical understanding of highway structures and maintenance practices.
3. Demonstrable ability to manage projects and mentor junior staff.
4. Reliable and flexible, with the willingness to work outside of normal hours when required.
5. Ability to travel throughout the County, with personal transport readily available.
6. Participation in out-of-hours standby, contributing to network resilience.
