Department of Oncology, Oxford Cancer, Churchill Hospital, OX3 7LE About the role We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Cancer Research Programmes Manager to join Oxford Cancer, a city-wide research initiative and partnership between Oxford University, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, Thames Valley Cancer Alliance and the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group. You will provide day-to-day oversight and technical management of a portfolio of translational cancer research projects and programmes, including sample collection/processing, immune-analysis, data integration and analysis, and have responsibility for the monitoring and delivery of key project milestones and outcomes. You will report to senior internal and external stakeholders and customers through briefings, presentations, and written reports at various governance meetings, ensuring decisions from these meetings are implemented. You will lead the coordination of annual funder reports for all managed funds and review management information to support decision-making processes, including monitoring the use of Oxford Cancer funds across the associated departments, in liaison with departmental staff. The postholder will be managed by the Oxford Cancer Director of Translational Research Infrastructure. This is a maternity cover post offered on a fixed-term basis for 18 months. The post is based at Oxford Cancer, Churchill Hospital, OX3 7LE. This role offers the opportunity for some hybrid working. About you You will be educated to degree level in a cancer research relevant subject and have a sound working knowledge of ethics of clinical sample use for research. You will have previous experience of managing technical or laboratory-based cancer research projects and proven ability to meet multiple tight deadlines, work well under pressure and independently prioritise a large volume of varied work whilst maintaining accuracy. You will have previous project/programme-management experience, including the preparation of funding proposals and project milestone monitoring and outcome reporting to a broad range of multidisciplinary stakeholders. You will have demonstrable decision-making skills and experience of leading and developing others through direct line and matrix management, including setting and monitoring objectives; overseeing personal development through identifying training opportunities; and independently identifying and addressing performance gaps. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience of reporting to senior colleagues and funding partners is essential.
