Job Description:
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
This is a permanent, full-time post of 37 hours per week, with a shift pattern of Monday to Sunday.
The QEUH Adult theatre Recovery & Same Day admission Units are fast-paced theatre environments which continually change as the service develops. They operate 24/7 and support both elective surgery patients and emergency surgery patients in many specialities including General Surgery, Renal/Urology, ENT, Gynaecology, Vascular and many more. As the QEUH is now the West of Scotland Major Trauma Centre, our service provides specialized and complex patient care. Recovery and Same Day admission units are essential parts of our patients’ journey for both elective and emergency cases. Both areas require strong leadership and specialist knowledge to facilitate and manage the complex procedures carried out at the QEUH.
Senior cover would have the skills to coordinate staff in both areas and work closely with highly effective communication with the MDT to ensure efficiency and cost-effective use of resources without compromising care. There is a need for this post to ensure that the theatres are supported by both areas and that these areas run efficiently and effectively with a focus on patient care, governance, and safety.
The Recovery & SDAU SCN/SCODP would provide effective leadership and specialist knowledge to ensure high-quality care is delivered and that nursing and service developments are taken forward to maintain excellent standards of care. This senior post would support junior staff and students, ensuring ongoing training including the NES Recovery Competencies to maintain those standards and ensure staff are fully trained in the specialist aspects of both areas.
This role will also entail working as part of the entire theatre senior staff team, partnering with all other senior staff including the Lead Nurses, CSM & GM to ensure a strong, focused, and cohesive management structure within the department.
