Job Description:
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Junior Garment Technologist is responsible for developing and executing premium quality products on time, ensuring maximised profit margins, in line with the strategy for each product segment.
The Junior Garment Technologist acts as a primary liaison between the Brand and product (apparel and accessories) suppliers to ensure that product features and specifications are understood and executable.
The role provides apparel engineering and manufacturing expertise to the design team to identify and prevent potential garment defects early.
The Junior Garment Technologist works closely with the design team to uphold quality standards from concept through production, aiming to exceed customer expectations.
Responsibilities:
Product Quality
* Ensure the highest product quality for assigned segments, reflecting brand values.
* Work with the Design team to verify specifications for quality and functionality.
* Monitor quality standards at suppliers during prototyping and development stages.
* Ensure products are safe and compliant with legislation.
* Conduct pre-production meetings with QC and suppliers.
* Review QC reports and sign off on production results.
* Inspect warehouse deliveries when needed.
* Provide technical support to internal teams.
* Perform risk analyses during product handover.
* Propose improvements for product development and manufacturing.
* Review and approve pre-production samples for quality and accuracy.
* Collaborate with designers to ensure products meet quality expectations and are fit for purpose.
* Test new products, techniques, and materials against quality standards.
* Support materials team with laboratory and wear tests as needed.
Product Development
* Align styling and aesthetic objectives with performance and cost goals.
* Maintain accurate product specifications and BOMs throughout development.
* Ensure documentation accuracy and update tracking tools like Range Grid.
* Approve wash-care labels with the materials team.
* Participate in sustainability projects.
* Serve as the main liaison with suppliers for development and technical issues.
* Ensure suppliers understand and can meet requirements for function, quality, and aesthetics.
* Certify manufacturing requirements are met and standards are maintained.
* Advise on manufacturing best practices and establish strong supplier relationships.
Process Management
* Manage prototyping, testing, and review processes to meet critical paths and launch dates.
* Ensure timely communication of critical path dates to all relevant teams.
* Coordinate with materials and design teams to meet seasonal timelines.
* Update and communicate project statuses to ensure adherence to schedules.
Product Fit and Sizing
* Develop and manage measurement charts, ensuring consistency across suppliers.
* Manage fitting processes and review size sets for accuracy.
Product Cost
* Advise on cost-effective workmanship without compromising quality.
* Support cost reduction initiatives and negotiate with suppliers.
Product Workmanship
* Ensure manufacturing standards are appropriate and used correctly.
* Drive improvements and innovations in technical solutions for quality, cost, and delivery speed.
