About us The Financial team is a centralised finance team working closely with the Services to provide financial advice and expertise. You will play a crucial role in supporting the objectives of the Finance Team in building relationships, maintaining value for money and coming up with new and innovative ways of working. We currently have a number of exciting vacancies within our team to enable us to continue to build on our success and also bring new experience, knowledge and ideas into the team. Post 1. Will focus on Place Directorate Posts 2 & 3. Children's (Schools Lead) Supporting the Education part of the Children's Services Directorate, including Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG), Educational, Inclusion and Additional Needs, support to schools. Responsibilities include collaboration with Schools Finance stakeholders, managing statutory returns and education budgets with the DfE, participating in Schools Forum meetings, and supervising a team of 4.5 FTEs. Children s Supporting the Children's Social Care part of the Children's Services Directorate, particularly spending on Children Looked After. Responsibilities include financial management, team supervision, collaboration with leadership, and involvement in programmes such as Skyline. Will focus on Capital/Commercial in the Finance team supporting the Place Directorate We work in a hybrid way, mixing working days in the office with working in a home environment. As part of this team you will be expected to work from the office for a minimum of two days per week. About the Roles You will work alongside the other Finance professionals and be responsible for the effective delivery of cost management, budget review and highlighting efficiencies across directorates. You will develop effective working relationships with finance colleagues and with stakeholders in the assigned service area. You will use your diplomacy and interpersonal skills to support and influence service decision. You will ensure that accurate financial records are maintained on our general ledger and supporting systems. You will develop and maintain financial monitoring systems. You will prepare, analyse and interpret financial information to contribute to the preparation of accounts, statutory returns and reports on financial performance. You will support, advise, direct, coach and supervise more junior colleagues and undertake quality reviews of their work to ensure that standards and deadlines are met. About you If you have a high performing track record of achieving solutions, you re looking to make a difference and want to be part of a strong team culture we would like to hear from you. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who can operate as part of a team delivering results in support of the wider finance team. You will be proactive, dynamic, motivated and have the drive to meet strict deadlines. You will be a fully qualified accountant (or qualified through experience) who enjoys a fast moving, dynamic workload, with significant accounting and commercial experience involving funding models; management accounting; budgeting and forecasting. You will also have significant experience in business partnering across multiple finance and non-finance teams; preparing budgets and forecasts; have strong communication skills (both written and verbal); and the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders using a variety of forms of communication. Previous knowledge and experience of working in a Local Authority is not necessarily required.
