Job overview
The post holder will support the Lead Technician for Aseptic Services in the provision of aseptic services and deputise as necessary in the management of the service.
Main duties of the job
* Supervise and participate in the day to day activities within the Aseptic services department.
* Work to the principles of “Good Manufacturing Practice”.
* Train and assess all grades of staff working in aseptic services.
* Support the set up and dispensing and maintenance of haematology and oncology trials based on the PRUH site.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Maintain equipment according to procedures, documenting all activity appropriately.
* Encourage adherence to all procedures relating to the Aseptic Services department and GMP.
* Complete all documentation needed for Quality Assurance, including writing and updating procedures.
* Perform In-process accuracy checks for other Aseptic Services staff after undergoing accredited competency process.
* Generate worksheets and labels using the pharmacy computer system.
* Advise the Lead Technician and Chief Technician on amending work practices and documentation to improve the running of the service.
* Assist the aseptic services managers in the development of new services for the Trust.
* Participate in the weekend and Bank Holiday rotas in the Pharmacy Dispensary.
* Be responsible for the aseptic preparation, clinical trials, or stock control services on a rotational basis with the other senior technicians.
* Involved in Quality Assurance ensuring environmental monitoring, sterility testing and validations are carried out.
* Allocate and daily plan workload in a section of the aseptic department.
* Assist in the recruitment and selection of technicians, cleanroom supervisors and ATOs.
* Demonstrate and teach aseptic skills to pharmacists, Trainee pharmacists, technicians, and cleanroom supervisors.
* Support the Clinical Trial team in the writing and implementation of aseptic aspects of haematology and oncology trials.
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
* NVQ Pharmacy services Level 3 plus accredited underpinning knowledge (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent).
* Pre and In Process Checking Accreditation (PIPC).
Knowledge and Experience
* Demonstrable knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice.
* Understanding of good stock management principles.
* Considerable experience working in an aseptic unit and using aseptic technique.
* Knowledge of regulations and legislation relevant to Clinical Trials.
