Astute are working on behalf of our client who operate a Gas Storage facility located in Hampshire. Gas taken from the Transmission System is placed into storage on site and held until demands require it to be placed back into use. The facility has a storage capacity of 10 billion cubic feet which provides around 20% of the UK Storage capability.
We are looking for a Control & Instrumentation Engineer with at least five years industry experience in a lead / supervisory role. As a Control & Instrumentation Engineer you will be responsible for coordinating maintenance tasks and improvement of process control systems to allow for the safe & efficient operation of the plant.

Responsibilities and duties:
As the Control & Instrument Engineer you will be responsible for:
1. Identify areas for recommended plant improvement and develop project work scopes and schedules for the Engineering Department.
2. Design and implement new process control systems and safety systems as part of capital projects.
3. Monitor CAPEX & OPEX budgets with respect to C&I activities, to ensure that they are performing effectively and cost effectively.
4. Take financial responsibility for small single function C&I Projects.
5. Act as Lead Engineer for site functional safety, development, maintenance, and support.
6. Specify, Test and Commission SIS and Control Systems upgrades.
7. Ensure instrumentation hazardous area design and installation is carried out in accordance with industry regulations.
8. Provide technical support to operations, including, diagnosis, root cause analysis, and implementation of remedial work required to ensure control system availability and integrity.
9. Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to C&I Technicians.
10. Ensure that all documentation and certification is in place for the installed facilities and that they fully comply with the statutory legislative and regulatory requirements with respect to the C&I discipline.
11. Ensure upgrades to the Safety Management System associated with Control & Instrumentation are applicable and in line with any legislation change.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
1. Ideally a Degree but would consider ONC / HNC / HND in a relevant Electronics, Control System/Automation or Instrumentation engineering field.
2. IOSH or NEBOSH or similar in Health & Safety.
Personal skills
The Control & Instrumentation Engineer would suit someone with:
1. At least five years supervisory experience in the Oil & Gas / COMAH / Chemical or similar industry.
2. Extensive experience working on Process Control Systems.
3. Experience working on PLC application software and AutoCAD.
4. Knowledge of Functional Safety Standards such as IEC 61508, 61511 and Explosive Atmospheres BS EN 60079.
5. Excellent team work and communication skills.
6. Proactive attitude towards health & safety.
