What the Job Involves The role involves executing duties as an authorised Class 2 Registered Building Inspector under the Principal Building Control Surveyor's direction, often requiring work outside regular office hours. Your focus will be on ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation during plan examination and site inspections. You will make critical on-the-spot decisions regarding applications and construction work, managing a wide spectrum of caseloads, and supervising Building Control Surveyors and Assistants. Your responsibilities include managing administrative tasks, such as application fee checks and quote production, to ensure projects are accurately charged, along with coordinating with clients and the Technical Support Team for proper payment processing. The role also involves issuing formal Decision Notices within statutory timeframes and offering expert advice to customers on building matters, while maintaining comprehensive records and reports. Under the guidance of the Principal Surveyor, you will pursue enforcement actions, engage in business development, and manage customer relationships to boost the council's market share and income. Optimizing staff resources for necessary inspections and contributing to staff education form part of your duties, as does acting independently on compliance, dangerous structures, and building safety matters, including emergency responses. Reporting safety risks to superiors and undertaking additional tasks as directed by senior council leadership are key elements of this position, while adhering to budget and resource management policies to influence community health, safety, and building functionality.
