An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join our Therapy Team. The role will fully engage all the skills of Occupational therapy, both the mental health and physical health skills. We are a friendly and supportive team, and we treat people in both acute and community settings, working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues. We offer a preceptorship and monthly clinical supervision along with CPD opportunities. We recognise our most precious commodity is our staff.
Main duties of the job
To deliver an effective, evidence-based occupational therapy (OT) service to adults and older people diagnosed with cognitive impairment (including dementia) or other mental health problems, in order to maximise independence and the safe management of their mental health difficulties, and also address any physical needs as appropriate in the mental health setting. To be responsible for assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of OT plans using a person-centred approach in both community and acute settings. To be involved in liaising and effectively communicating with all relevant parties, including GPs and carers. To promote innovative and creative ways of working with service users/carers with complex mental health needs. To effectively manage the resources available to achieve the best possible care and outcomes for service users.

Job responsibilities
Our Job Description encapsulates the skills needed to comply with the four pillars of practice, namely Professional Practice, Facilitation of Learning, Leadership, and Research and Development. Skills will include highly developed communication skills to conduct functional assessments and communicate complex information related to individuals' mental health needs to service users, carers, and multidisciplinary teams. Candidates will maintain and develop effective communications and working relationships with both internal and external teams, reporting back outcomes of OT assessments and interventions. To promote and implement creative ways of working with clients that show personalised and individualised interventions. To manage highly confidential information in accordance with local and national policy. To act as lead professional when indicated, for specialist assessment where the main intervention is occupational therapy. The candidate will be able to make decisions about the range of options for OT interventions and care plans based on clinical judgement of a service user's need. To conduct comprehensive OT assessments of both service users and carers in line with team operational policies.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Occupational Therapy (BSc or MSc) qualification
* Relevant training; i.e. related to mental health and/or Occupational Therapy
Experience
* Experience working with people with mental health conditions either in a paid or voluntary capacity
* Understanding of the role of the Occupational Therapist within a mental health setting
* Experience of working within a team
* Qualified as an Occupational Therapist and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* Experience working within Older People's Mental Health services, inpatient or community
* 1 year experience of working as a qualified Occupational Therapist
Skills & Attributes
* Full driving licence and daily use of car
* Able to organise and prioritise own workload
* Skills in Information Technology
* Able to work independently and use own initiative
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to co-ordinate and run group sessions
* Ability to negotiate work priorities
* Ability to involve Service Users and carers actively in planning and evaluating their Therapy plan.

£29,970 to £44,962 a year. Pay dependent on experience.
