We are a small, friendly GP Surgery located within the village of Grimston, Norfolk.
We are looking for additional Dispensers, preferably already qualified to join our enthusiastic and professional team.
The position(s) are permanent and will cover hours between 8.00am- 5.30pm Monday to Friday. Flexibility is essential to be able to provide additional cover for holidays and sickness.
The NVQ Level 2 as a dispenser or in Pharmacy Service is preferred but not essential as full training will be given.
Main duties of the job
1. Issue, prepare and dispense prescriptions.
2. Control dispensary stock to maintain reasonable levels, accurately record in and out of the computer stock control system, rotate and store correctly.
3. Undertake DRUMs as required.
4. Deal with queries relating to prescriptions in a calm and professional manner.
5. Liaise with the clinical team within the Practice daily and respond promptly to any queries.
6. Work efficiently within a busy Dispensary environment.
7. Ensure the Dispensary is run in a cost-effective manner, complying with policies and Standard Operating Procedures, facilitating effective communication between patients and all members of the healthcare team.
About us
The Dispensary is located within the Surgery and provides acute and repeat medication to our 5300 patients. The Clinical team comprises of 3 GP Partners, 1 GP, 1 Nurse Practitioner, 3 Practice Nurses, and 2 HCAs, making the Dispensary a busy environment with a constant flow of patients requiring medication and answers to their related enquiries.
The Surgery is currently open from Monday to Friday; we do not open on weekends.
Job responsibilities
1. Ensure the safe and accurate ordering, dispensing, and checking of all medication, prepared and delivered promptly.
2. Dispense and check all prescriptions safely and accurately.
3. Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and the multidisciplinary team.
4. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
5. Establish and maintain accurate and tidy working practices.
6. Undertake agreed tasks and duties once competency is achieved.
7. Follow and abide by all Practice protocols, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
8. Answer the telephone promptly and courteously while maintaining patient confidentiality.
9. Assist in the smooth running of the dispensary, keeping all workstations clean and tidy in line with IPC cleaning schedules.
10. Deal with prescription monies promptly and accurately.
11. Comply with Information Governance and computer usage policies and guidelines.
12. Use resources effectively, minimizing waste.
13. Ensure all tasks, notifications, and emails are actioned promptly and mandatory training is completed.
14. Carry out all dispensary-related administrative tasks diligently and efficiently.
15. Complete additional allocated tasks following discussion and agreement with dispensary lead and management.
16. Order, manage, and store stock, deal with deliveries of medication, appliances, and dispensary supplies.
17. Uniform will be provided.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE Mathematics C or above
* GCSE English C or above
* NVQ2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent)
Experience
* Previous Customer Service experience
* Ability to work as part of a small busy team
* Previous Pharmacy or Dispensary experience beneficial
Additional skills and background
* Friendly and outgoing, with a positive attitude
* Firm understanding of the need for strict confidentiality
* Flexibility to cover holidays and sickness outside of contracted hours
* Good IT skills - use of Microsoft products, email, etc.
* Previous experience of working within Primary Care
* Previous experience with SystmOne would be beneficial but not essential
