The Education Welfare Service is seeking to recruit an Education Welfare Officer.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and professional team, working alongside schools/alternative provisions (AP) to raise attendance and engagement. This work forms part of our innovative approaches to supporting the most vulnerable children across the district and offers a chance to be part of positive change.
The post holder will have previous experience of working in schools/APs and/or educational establishments and the post requires both support and challenge. We are seeking a confident person who can offer prompt, consistent, and rigorous intervention in line with statutory processes for pupils with poor attendance and advising all schools regarding compliance with legislation/DfE guidance in relation to attendance and, where appropriate, identify and challenge practice.
The successful postholder will provide support to schools/APs and parents/carers with regard to safeguarding issues around non-attendance, for example, quick identification of absence indicating a potential Child Missing Education, exploitation of vulnerable children through County Lines, and those vulnerable to exploitation, advocating for children and families. The postholder is required to work with schools/APs to develop, deliver, and evaluate attendance training and will also be required to present to other professionals on occasion.
The post will form part of an Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce (APST) and will mainly work across various alternative provision sites across the district. You will work as part of the multi-agency team supporting pupils who have been permanently excluded or are at significant risk of exclusion.
The post holder will be supported by colleagues and will also have access to regular supervision meetings.
