New Forest Care is looking for an experienced maintenance worker too provide efficient and effective maintenance, keeping our sites in a good state of repair and safe, in line with current legislation and following all Health & Safety and Fire Safety Guidelines. The post holder will be expected to observe safe working practices in carrying out the required duties and ensure that instructions specified by technical consultants, contractors, manufacturers and the Director responsible for Health & Safety are adhered to. Core Responsibilities of the Post To arrange to clear blockages, remove foreign matter from sinks, toilets, drains, kitchen grease traps etc. and clean up spillages as required. To ensure that gullies, drains etc. are kept free from debris. To be undertake clearing pedestrian accesses to any of the properties particularly in adverse weather conditions (e.g. clearing snow, gritting etc.) To dispose of waste materials in a safe and hygienic manner ensuring that it is available for collection as required. To undertake duties as directed; outlined below: Painting and Decorating – To complete all decorating tasks including external painting, internal walls, wood work Joinery – First line maintenance of fixtures and fittings, examples: tightening screws on window hinges, maintenance on door handles, minor repairs as a temporary measure after break-ins, vandalism etc. First and second fix joinery including repair and installation of Fire Doors to Fire Standards. Plumbing – Unblocking sinks, traps and waste pipes. Adjustment and re-washering of taps. Glazing – remedial action after break-ins, for example boarding up of broken windows, ordering and fitting replacement glass. Move furniture and heavy items in support of the company’s activities. Once each week complete a safety and general maintenance check of maintenance vehicle to include such things as tyres, lights, seatbelts wipers, warning lights etc. Report defects and ensure maintenance of vehicle is carried out in line with company policy. To maintain appropriate records including, orders, receipts, risk assessments, Health & Safety, mileage etc. To report and act upon emergencies in the case of faults with gas, electric and water supply to the Director responsible for Health & Safety, or where not immediately available technical services or regular contractors, and report minor faults on site to the manager who has responsibility for the site e.g. Care Home Manager. To attend to, where necessary, personnel/companies visiting sites such as contractors. To carry out grounds maintenance to external areas of properties. To clean the internal face of external windows, internal glass, gutter and fascia’s within the limitations of safe working practice. To have due regard for your own personal safety and that of children/carers. This includes wearing appropriate PPE, using safe systems of work, following appropriate risk assessments and completing and passing appropriate Health & Safety training. To undertake on call responsibility in working hours, organise and priorities work to ensure emergency situations are acted upon in a timely and appropriate manner. To report accidents, hazards, injuries, dangerous occurrences and near misses. To attend staff meetings as directed. To order materials/parts required to undertake maintenance work as required.
