Our GSA refuge is for women and children who have had to flee their homes because of domestic abuse. We provide support, advice and information for families regarding their housing needs, welfare benefits, mental health and well-being. Staff also empower and equip the women to live independently, within a safe and stable environment free from violence and abuse. Referrals are mainly sourced through the `Routes-to-Support` portal managed by Women`s Aid, but the service also accepts direct referrals in line with its internal criteria. The refuge has 16 self-contained flats with a communal lounge, a communal kitchen, a children`s classroom, as well as a communal garden area. You will provide support to women whilst they are in refuge accommodation. Ideally, you should have experience working with women who have suffered domestic abuse, although other relevant experience may be considered. Primarily, the aim is to improve the mental health and wellbeing of these individuals, focusing on building up their self confidence and self-esteem, so that they can process and heal from the emotional trauma they have experienced.
