Head of Department – Lab Manager – Interim
Job Title: Interim Microbiology Lab Manager (Operational)
Location: Southwest of England
Duration: 9 – 12 months FTC
Our client is looking for an Interim Lab Manager for an initial period of 9 months to oversee and manage all functions within the microbiology laboratory.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage a team which consists of managers and supervisors.
2. Ensure all laboratory operations are conducted efficiently.
3. Oversee all functions within the microbiology laboratory.
4. Ensure that key performance indicators are recorded and trended, presenting this data to the wider business and making recommendations for improvements.
5. Prepare for and take part in UKAS, RSA, internal and external audits by liaising with customers, internal and external auditors.
6. Oversee media and consumable stock levels, ensuring that supplies are maintained at appropriate levels.
7. Ensure the safe use, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
8. Manage payroll reports.
9. Oversee training activities for all microbiology laboratory staff.
10. Attend manager meetings and other meetings as required to support laboratory operations.
11. Preparation and implementation of all internal and external audits.
12. Maintain and ensure 'good laboratory practice' is followed, conducting tests in accordance with established methods and procedures while complying with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and RSA retailer requirements.
13. Maintain accurate records of the qualifications, technical competence, and experience of laboratory staff, including the authority to 'sign off' training records.
14. Identify training needs and conduct staff appraisals to support professional development.
15. Ensure the overall cleanliness of the laboratory is maintained.
16. Uphold the utmost confidentiality in respect of customer testing and reports.
17. Enforce the use of appropriate protective clothing and equipment in the laboratory.
18. Monitor and ensure that all safety, hygiene, and health and safety requirements are adhered to within the laboratory.
19. Report any health and safety issues to the Health and Safety Representatives.
20. Enforce laboratory safety procedures and the use of PPE.
