Purpose of the Job:
This is a superb opportunity for someone who loves the details of taxation and wants to apply that knowledge in an exciting commercial and enterprising environment. As the central role for ensuring tax compliance, you will be working on the impact of Garmin Europe’s global VAT presence, corporation tax and other indirect taxes.
With a keenness for keeping on top of new VAT and tax changes, you will be collaborating with internal IT departments to ensure the system reflects legislative changes and new jurisdictions. Good communication skills are integral to the role as you will have a key role in the relationship with our external tax advisors, HMRC, and fellow finance colleagues.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
* Oversee the global VAT compliance to ensure accurate and timely submissions including a detailed review on our two largest registrations.
* Review VAT in new jurisdictions to identify further compliance required. Be the responsible person on setting up new overseas VAT registrations with our tax advisors.
* Key contact for liaison with HMRC for business risk reviews and any ad hoc queries.
* Ensure a good control environment for Garmin Europe taxes. Drive the SOX review processes on VAT/corporation tax along with Corporate Criminal Offences Act review and act accordingly to develop new processes where needed.
* Be a key contact with KPMG to drive the relationship and projects forward, whilst being good value.
* Be a go-to person for tax knowledge and queries, particularly to our accounts payables and accounts receivable functions.
* Calculate the quarterly corporation tax provision and report to head office.
* Liaise with the Global tax team to highlight Garmin Europe and UK focused projects and developments.
* Develop user/training guides for relevant methods to empower users on their understanding of VAT codes to use on transactions.
* Perform system testing and aid implementation of business application upgrades to reflect tax law updates and compliance.
* Work with the supply chain teams to ensure any new or unusual flows are tax compliant.
* Support IT for enhancements of tax engines.
* Liaise with senior management to communicate any impact on the business of tax issues.
* Any other ad hoc tasks as directed by the Financial Controller.
Education & Experience:
* Advanced Excel Skills.
* Good knowledge of international and UK VAT.
