Main duties of the job
1. To assist in planning, implementing and evaluation of high quality individualised infant care under the supervision of senior nursing staff.
2. To promote a friendly and supportive atmosphere for parents and relatives in which they can learn to care for their babies ensuring a family integrated care approach.
3. Assist parents/carers to develop their skills and build confidence prior to and following discharge.
4. Monitor vital signs.
5. Caring for babies receiving Oxygen via low flow nasal cannula.
6. Participate in the care of babies requiring phototherapy.
7. Be able to identify child protection concerns and take appropriate action.
8. Maintain legible, accurate and contemporaneous records in accordance with the Trust Policy.
9. Be responsible for own professional development.
Job responsibilities
The role of the Nursery Nurse is to work with the multi professional team and the Registered Nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate clinical care in line with service and patient needs, as agreed with supervising clinicians. The Nursery Nurse works independently under the leadership of registered nurses, working within the sphere of nursing care and within all aspects of the nursing process. The post holder will act professionally at all times and use their knowledge and experience to make evidence-based decisions to solve challenges and problems. They recognise and work within the limits of their competencies and are responsible and accountable for their actions.
The post holder will have responsibility for training and supervising of nursing assistants, pre-registration nurses and nursing associates. They will be expected to actively contribute to quality assurance processes and service development.
Manages a delegated caseload, working as a member of a team, responsible for interacting constructively with team members and organising, prioritising and planning their work. Uses a range of assessment tools to assist in the implementation of appropriate action to meet the specific physical, emotional and psychological, social, cultural and spiritual needs of individuals and carers.
Demonstrates the ability to effectively and responsibly access, input, and apply information and data using a range of methods including digital technologies, and share appropriately within interdisciplinary teams. Demonstrates an ability to prioritise and manage their own workload, and recognise where elements of care can safely be delegated to other colleagues, carers and family members.
Provide sensitive, compassionate, safe and effective care to support people in a range of care settings, applying the principles and processes for making reasonable adjustments. Develop understanding of all elements of the nursing process and be able to assist the Registered Nurse in the on-going assessment, planning, management and evaluation of care.
Perform and record clinical observations. Undertake clinical tasks and assist in bedside procedures. Additional competency-based skills relevant to clinical area can be attained following completion of appropriate training.
Ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times. Demonstrate the ability to recognise changing priorities seeking advice and guidance from the Registered Nurse or other Allied Healthcare Professionals as appropriate.
To ensure that high standards of nursing care are given and maintained. To act and raise concerns when standards are not being maintained following local policy and procedures.
Demonstrate good understanding of principles of consent and ensure valid consent is obtained prior to undertaking nursing and care procedures. Have demonstrated the proficiency to administer medications within Trust policy and procedure and in line with the NMC Standards.
To work in collaboration with others to ensure the safe and timely transfer or discharge of patients. Improve the quality of care by contributing to the continuous monitoring of patients and carers/relatives experience of care.
Responsible to prevent and control infections within the Trust. Ensuring both personal and team compliance with all relevant policies, especially hand washing, the Trust uniform policy.
To act as an advocate for the patient and the family, including promoting and protecting their interests, privacy, rights and inclusion.

Qualifications
* NNEB Diploma in Nursery Nursing or Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education or BTEC National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development
* Evidence of literacy and numeracy to GCSE level
* Committed to own personal development
Experience
* Previous recent experience of working as a nursery nurse within a health care setting
* Supervision of Junior Staff

Salary: £31,944 to £34,937 a year p.a. inclusive of HCA (pro rata for part time post)
