The role of Materials Engineer is to provide materials expertise to help develop products for the Aerospace and Space markets based on the TISICS metal matrix composite and fibre technologies. Products include but are not limited to structural components, pressure vessels, and liquid propellant tanks.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Testing, modifying and evaluating the performance of different materials (and combinations of materials) for different qualities.
2. Analysing test data.
3. Investigating incidents of material failure.
4. Providing technical advice about the suitability of materials for different products and problems.
5. Building prototypes and testing them.
6. Exploring the environmental impact of different materials and their manufacture and use.
7. Developing manufacturing processes.
8. Overseeing operational quality control processes.
9. Liaising with suppliers, customers and manufacturing/development staff.
10. Supervising engineering and technical staff.
Qualifications
1. Qualified to degree level (BEng/BSc) in metallurgy, materials science, production engineering or chemistry or similar degree with relevant experience.
2. Experience in conducting research and laboratory testing.
3. Understanding of inspection and testing processes gained through industrial experience.
4. Based within easy access of Farnborough.
