The ENT Department forms part of Specialist Surgery (along with Ophthalmology and Maxillo Facial Services) within East Kent Hospitals. Centralisation of ENT and Ophthalmology inpatient and emergency services took place in 2000 at The William Harvey Hospital, and Maxillofacial Surgery followed to the William Harvey in 2011. All 3 Departments share a subspecialist Head and Neck Ward at William Harvey Hospital.
The ENT Department provides in-patient and Day Case Surgical Services and Outpatient Services at the William Harvey and Outpatient and Day Case Surgical services are provided at Kent & Canterbury Hospital. Outpatient facilities are also provided at Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital at Margate.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the Head and Neck service.
The expectation is that the appointee will join the 5 other Head and Neck Consultant ENT Surgeons in delivering secondary level care to the patients of East and West Kent.
The individual will have to be involved in all aspects of the patient’s pathway from two-week rule clinics to major surgical resections. The post will require skills in managing both benign and malignant disease.
We are looking for a candidate that is Fellowship trained. It is also key to have a high level of training in trans-oral laser resections, skills that can be put to use straightaway when commencing the post.
You will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge in liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time).

Qualifications and training
* Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
* Other additional post CCT training or experience
Skills and experience
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
* Broad experience in the management of ENT elective surgery and emergency care
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment
* Special interest that complements the Department
* Willingness to build a business case to obtain image navigation system and set up new services
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
* Experience in working in MDT teams clinics such as Head and Neck and Thyroid
