Job Purpose To train and develop members of Merseyside Police and partner agencies, on the direction of The Academy Senior Management Team, in the skills and abilities required by them to perform their duties effectively, contributing to the research, design, preparation and delivery and review of training courses as required. Knowledge & Experience Post holders must have recent SIO experience of Cat A & Cat B murders to deliver ISMDP & SIO course effectively. Post holders must have a recognised police training or teaching qualification (or be willing to work towards one, as a minimum College of Policing standard although other formal academic teaching qualifications such as PGCE, Cert. Ed. will be considered - this list is not exhaustive). This will enable post holders to deliver training effectively. May require specific professional qualifications dependant upon training programme. Must remain occupationally competent in order to retain license from awarding body e.g. Assessor, PIP and CMI. Must demonstrate competence and current professional knowledge in particular area of experience and expertise with a high degree of transferable training skills in order to work flexibly between training programmes as and when required. A commitment to continuous professional development in line with appropriate programme of training. Must ensure that training design is current and incorporates all relevant developments in the field. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be able to convey complex issues accurately and concisely and deal with sensitive issues in a constructive and appropriate manner. Must be empathic to the needs of students and have experience in managing and supervising a classroom environment and individuals with a wide range of diverse needs and expectations. Clear and demonstrable professional and ethical standards in line with all force policies (i.e. dignity at work, equal opportunities, diversity). This is essential to providing a role model/mentor to students. Organisational skills and the ability to manage and prioritise own workload in order to meet competing demands for course development and delivery to agreed deadlines. Organisational and decision making skills for the development of the individual i.e. construction of examinations, monitoring of performance, giving feedback, managing and assessing portfolios, PIP, CMI and awarding competencies. A clear understanding of new technology and developments that can be translated into the provision of learning solutions for the force. Must demonstrate a problem solving approach to designing the best learning solution to meet specified objectives and build in innovative techniques and alternative learning methodologies as required to provide the most efficient and effective learning solutions for the force. A good understanding of national, regional and force policing imperatives in order to ensure that training design and delivery is relevant and fit for purpose. It is essential to clearly understand and adhere to the minimum standards required by COP and as adopted by Merseyside Police in relation to the overall cycle of training research, design; delivery and evaluation to ensure that all training events delivered by The Academy adhere to these standards. Must be flexible in approach to hours of work (some evening and /or weekend work may be required) and teaching location in order to be able to deliver training in line with operational policing needs, which can be at short notice.
