Overview of the role:
Reporting into the Lead Systems Engineer, the successful candidate will join a highly focused and passionate team leading the delivery of electrical/electronic engineering across the business.
The role is within the Group Electrics & Controls Excavator team which has responsibility to ensure that all new JCB Product programmes meet the required technical deliverables against required timing, whilst also maintaining our current product portfolio and closing Service issues in a timely manner. The role requires technical knowledge, project delivery process understanding, and the ability to work with diverse teams to ensure delivery in line with product excellence.
Located at the manufacturing site, the successful candidate will be able to touch and feel the product to ensure the design level requirements are appropriately translated into machine operation and function.
The role will be responsible for delivering the technical project delivery co-ordination of the design, development and deployment of new electrical & electronic systems into the Excavator product range, of both new product and current product issues.
Working as part of the systems engineering team, you will support the planning definition, interpretation and development of the customer and system level requirements.
This role will involve technical project co-ordination across a range of products with rationalisation and commonality as one of the main objectives, whilst pushing new technologies and feature content to enhance and satisfy the customer requirements.
As a Senior Engineer/Engineer you will provide technical support to the delivery of the E&E design. You will support the planning, tracking and status reporting for the E&E deliverables across a number of projects concurrently whilst attending project based meetings to update on status and delivery. This will also require the planning, tracking and status reporting on a number of live current product ‘service’ issues. Technical support will be required to support team delivery when required.
Your Responsibilities:
1. Translate the ‘voice of the customer’ (internal and external) into a list of clear concise requirements and deliverables.
2. Plan, monitor and track multiple projects at one time.
3. Status checks for all live projects, with the ability to articulate project plans, challenges and next steps to achieve successful project delivery.
4. Selection of correct hardware platform(s) to deliver the technical solution, considering environmental and cost targets.
5. Create software architecture to satisfy delivery of the requirements.
6. Co-ordinate 3rd party support vendors with the creation of requirements and corresponding software architectures.
7. Ensuring robust and reliable ECU communication protocols are followed in line with industry best practice (SAE J1939, Ethernet).
8. Read electronic schematic diagrams and their electrical wiring diagram counterpart.
9. Ensure design for manufacture is considered, both relating to build of the programming and parameter configuration of selected solution.
10. Sound record keeping techniques, of all designs, revisions and related updates.
11. Drive re-use of components and approaches.
12. Support cause and effect analysis – risk assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone.
About you:
1. Knowledge of different CAN bus protocols ie CANOpen, J1939, ISO14229, ISO14230.
2. Working knowledge of Software development techniques (V Model and functional safety).
3. Awareness of security impact to achieve secure and resilient systems (hardware and software).
4. Knowledge / experience of system integration testing at a vehicle level – does the solution power up, communicate, operate and shut down as intended?
5. Comfortable working with various electronic lab tools ie Spectrum analyser, Oscilloscope, Signal Generators, DC power supplies.
6. Comfortable working with serial tools, bluetooth and over the air diagnostics.
7. A good understanding of design verification processes (DVPSOR).
8. Comfortable supporting and completing cause and effect analysis – Risk Assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone.
9. Experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) within system engineering or software development.
10. Qualified to HND/Degree level in an electronic/electrical based technology discipline or equivalent experience.
11. Validation and verification co-ordination.
12. Experience of Project delivery.
