This role is based in the General Ledger (GL) team which is part of the Record to Report area of Finance Operations, providing professional accounting services to our clients. The work is varied and includes account reconciliations, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, Counterparty and Whole of Government Accounts, general accounting queries and advice and involvement in departmental and company projects.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in our well-respected Finance Services department managing high-level accounting professionals. The role plays an important part in both managing and supporting the teams as they are and shaping the future of processes as we go through major transformation programmes.
Duties will include, but not be limited to the following:
* Effectively manage a team of around 7 to 10 people responsible for professional accounting services, to ensure that deadlines are met and accounting standards maintained.
* Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the General Ledger area, supporting the teams with complex queries, advice and training and dealing with client escalations.
* Carry out root-cause analysis to provide an understanding of accounting, reporting and system problems/anomalies.
* Input into system changes and major programmes, providing technical and process knowledge, identifying areas of concern and suggesting resolutions.
* Manage testing within the team and develop new processes to ensure that systems and change initiatives integrate smoothly into the teams.
* Take a leading role in client-facing activities such as year-end negotiations, review meetings and working groups.
* Build a good working relationship with SMEs, leaders and accountants across UKSBS and our client base, collaborating on issues and providing advice on accounting processes and impacts.
* Support Head of Department and Operations Managers with strategic planning, ad hoc projects, investigations and audits.
To do this role well you will need:
* Professional Accounting Qualification
* Experience of building and maintaining effective working relationships with senior internal/external stakeholders.
* Excellent understanding of and experience working with double-sided accounting.
* High level of expertise in General Ledger accounting including all types of account reconciliation and complex accounting query resolution.
* Excellent knowledge of Finance process best practice and ability to represent Finance in major change programmes.
* Experience in managing an accounting team with a diverse workload and stringent deadlines.
* Advanced software skills particularly SharePoint, Excel and PowerPoint.
* Proven people management skills.
* Understanding of wider Government Accounting would be highly beneficial.
* Experience of working across organisations in delivering best in class processes and service.
In return for your skills and experience, we can offer you flexible and remote working options for a 37hr week (full time) with start and finish times between 8am - 6pm, or part time hours to suit.
