A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 post as a Diabetes Education and Training Specialist Nurse to join our dynamic team at ABUHB. The post holder will lead the development of and be responsible for planning and delivering diabetes education programmes for healthcare professionals and patients across ABUHB.
Although based at a site, the post holder will be required to rotate across other hospital sites to develop, deliver, and audit training programmes to enhance staff knowledge and skills in managing patients with diabetes.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is identified as a clinical expert and is required to ensure roll out and up-skilling of agreed diabetes educational programmes including the Think Glucose educational programme across the Health Board. The post holder will be expected to exercise professional autonomy and make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role.
The post holder is expected to work as a skilled specialist nurse and to have expert knowledge in order to lead on the implementation and evaluation of specialist diabetes-focused education and training. The post holder will be responsible for leading and coordinating audits and evaluations into the delivery and effectiveness of the training programme, writing and contributing to reports on the effectiveness of the programme to the Directorate and Senior staff members when required.
They will provide specialised professional advice, consultancy, clinical expertise, and leadership to patients, carers, and Health Board staff. They will demonstrate advanced skills and competencies to influence the delivery of programmes of care across the organisation.
The post holder will work with patients towards achieving their goals and provide seamless care to the defined client group, carers, and families to enhance the patient/client experience.
This role is key to developing an enabling environment to maintain the independence of patients and the services that support them.
