The Educational Psychology Service at Doncaster Council has its own vision and values that are embedded in everything we do. You will find a team of professionals committed to advocating for children and young people and working closely with families and other agencies.
Educational Psychologists work to support the local authority and schools/settings in meeting the needs of children and young people aged 0-25 with SEND as well as supporting the development of inclusive and high quality education for all learners.
We are looking for a professionally qualified Educational Psychologist/ Year 3 Trainee Educational Psychologist to join our friendly, supportive and well-regarded service.
As an Educational Psychologist in our team, you will work with children, parents, schools, pre-school providers, other education settings and health and care agencies to apply the principles of the SEN Code of Practice to help children and young people improve their learning and achieve their best in life, promoting the inclusion of all children and young people in the life of their school and local community.
Your role
Educational Psychologists working for Doncaster Educational Psychology Service are encouraged to further their development as applied psychologists in their work to support the psychological and educational development and well-being of children and young people across the borough. The work involves a full range of tasks including consultation, assessment, advice, training, research and whole school development.
There is a strong culture of collaborative working, both within the service and the local area, and we regularly work alongside other services such as the Autism and Social Communication Education and Training Services, Behaviour Outreach Service, CAMHS locality, Visual and Hearing Impairment team and the Special Educational Needs team. As the service is mainly non-traded, you will have the flexibility to develop your role to meet local schools’ needs and drive your practice towards preventative work, fostering early intervention and being able to control your own practice based on your professional judgement and the child or young people’s best interests.
You will be provided with regular peer supervision, a program of CPD, and opportunities for peer support and collaborative working. The local authority provides a flexi work scheme and a full range of employee benefits. The EPS is paperless, and EPs are encouraged to work from home when possible.
We take pride in supporting the well-being of the team; with this in mind, we have a cap on the number of statutory advices written by each EP. There is an option for completing additional work which is reimbursed as additional contracted hours, something that our EPs really value.
What you'll need
We are looking for an Educational Psychologist who is enthusiastic about the value of applied psychology in promoting positive outcomes for our children and young people and their families. They will need to be creative and flexible with excellent inter-personal skills, demonstrating a reflective approach to practice and a commitment to furthering their professional development.
To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate a sound knowledge of psychological research and practice relevant to children and young people’s development, and experience of a wide range of psychological assessment and intervention approaches and techniques for children and young people.
As a qualified Educational Psychologist working with children and young people and their families, as well as other professionals, you will be required to have excellent oral and written communication skills for a wide range of needs and audiences.
You must have a post-graduate training in educational psychology or equivalent and HCPC registration.
Educational Psychologists in Doncaster are currently paid on a Soulbury Local Scale and receive a market supplement that equates to national Soulbury pay.
