Job description
As a Senior Software Developer you will play a key role in the design, build, support, implementation and improvement of digital services, products and platforms across DVSA. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team using Agile delivery methodologies, delivering solutions that meet user will be expected to work from requirements or high-level design without the need for direct supervision and will be responsible for the development and delivery of well-designed and executed software and data management solutions. We will also look to you to coach, support and mentor individual and apprentice is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced developer to build upon their skills and experience in a more senior role. If you have extensive experience using PHP, Java or JavaScript/Typescript and agile methodologies, version control, and DevOps then we would love to hear from you!
Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
1. Front-end and/or back-end development (back-end developers need PHP, Java, JavaScript/Typescript whereas front-end developers need PHP, CSS and HTML skills, as well as being comfortable with JavaScript/Typescript).
2. Building digital services and software solutions to serve a variety of users needs, and complying with the Digital by Default service standard.
3. Implementing APIs for internal and external use.
4. Building up a robust, automated test suite to support a Continuous Development environment.

Additional Information
This role can be based in Bristol, Swansea, Nottingham, Newcastle, Oldham or Birmingham or Leeds your presence at one of these locations will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. We operate a hybrid working model giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work. Our expectation is that you will spend a minimum 60% of your time at your base location. Visits to other DVSA sites or work locations count towards this.�
Government Digital and Data Profession Pay Framework
This role is part of the��and utilises an enhanced Capability�Based Pay Framework which provides access to a Digital and Data allowance.
The base pay is 40,808. In addition to this, the role includes a Digital and Data allowance of up to �16,592.
The value of allowance awarded will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated through the selection process.

Person specification
5. We are looking for someone with experience of full stack development and a track record of delivering successful development outcomes for digital transactional services using agile methodologies, version control, and DevOps.
6. You have a detailed expert knowledge of at least one programming language that includes PHP, Java, Typescript, Javascript, and are keen to learn new languages and technologies.
7. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulating complex technical matters to a non-technical audience and to effectively influence senior stakeholders.
8. You will bring experience of coaching and mentoring developers to work within an Agile delivery framework, be committed to quality and will promote quality software engineering techniques to the team.
