Working Hours: 35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Salary: £38309
Annual Leave: 42 days per annum (excluding bank holidays and up to 3 additional discretionary days over the Christmas/New Year period)
As our Assistant Head of Social and Applied Sciences, you will be responsible for supporting the Head of Institute in the leadership and management of a specific subject area.
The post holder will have teaching commitment will be remitted 0.25 pro rata. They will support leadership on cross-cutting themes such as student engagement, progress, assessment, and quality.
The Assistant Head of Department may be expected to line manage and or coordinate the work of a team of staff within the department as required.

Responsibilities of our Assistant Head of Social and Applied Sciences:
Supporting the Head of Institute in leading and managing a collection of subject areas, ensuring that high standards of teaching, learning and assessment are maintained.
Promote the College’s vision and mission and strategic objectives and to promote behaviours which underpin them.
Contribute to the colleges curriculum development process which includes preparing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing new programmes and resources.
Monitoring and analysing student data to identify areas for improvement and working with staff to implement interventions and strategies to improve student outcomes.
Implementing and monitoring the colleges policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practice.
Implementing and monitoring the colleges high ambitions for excellence in teaching, learning and assessment.
Contribute to the quality of learning activities, ensuring that they meet College quality standards and result in improving student success rates.
Lead on cross-cutting themes such as student engagement, progression, assessment and IQA processes.
Ensure that the institute delivers high performing and quality provision across all income streams, meeting the needs and standards of all our learners and customers.
Undertaking a teaching commitment as per substantive role, and thus maintaining lecturer duties.
Line managing a small team of staff within the department as required, including carrying out staff appraisals and performance management.
Role modelling excellent practice in student management, teaching, learning and assessment.
Supporting team members to develop their practice in student management, teaching, learning and assessment.
Proactively promote equality of opportunity in all aspects of the work role.
Leading by example.
Participating in college-wide committees and working groups as required.
Undertaking any other duties as reasonably requested by the Head of Institute.

Relevant teaching qualification and subject specialism.
Experience of delivering good teaching and leading in further education.
Experience of leading on cross-cutting themes such as student engagement, progress, assessment and IQA processes.
Communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to analyse data and use it to drive improvements.
Organisational and planning skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
