About the Role
The Head of Direct Tax Compliance and Reporting will be primarily responsible for the delivery of all direct tax compliance and reporting obligations for the group. The ideal candidate will have experience in running international compliance and reporting engagements in professional practice or comparative experience within a similar sized business. The role offers a great opportunity for the right candidate to further refine and develop the tax operating model in this area, with autonomy to implement the changes required to build a compliance function fit for the future. Whilst the core responsibilities of the role will be focused on compliance and reporting, there will be significant opportunity for the right candidate to develop their advisory skills through consistent exposure to projects (including international expansion, new market entry and M&A projects).
Responsibilities:
1. Take full ownership for the delivery of all corporate income tax compliance requirements in all territories in which the group operate.
2. Manage the relationship with advisors in the UK and overseas in relation to all compliance matters.
3. Work closely with the group reporting team and lead the tax input for group year end, interim and statutory account reporting.
4. Manage all transfer pricing compliance and documentation obligations.
5. Continuously review the operating model adopted in relation to the delivery of compliance and reporting obligations and identify process and control improvements.
6. Identify opportunities to better leverage technology in compliance and reporting processes.
7. Take an active role as part of the tax leadership group to continually raise the profile of tax within the business and deliver training to others within the tax and impacted teams.
8. Support the Group Tax Director in managing relationship with HMRC and various overseas tax offices through audit processes.
Requirements:
9. 8+ years’ experience in delivery of compliance and reporting obligations in a multinational business, either as part of a compliance and reporting focused role in professional practice or with a business of similar scale.
10. Strong tax accounting skills (IFRS).
11. Experience managing adviser relationships (or if within practice, relationships with overseas firms).
12. Strong UK and international tax knowledge with a focus on the US and Europe.
13. An understanding of and/or experience of the HMRC annual Business Risk Review process.
14. Experience managing transfer compliance and reporting obligations, with some exposure to transfer pricing model design and implementation.
15. An understanding of Pillar 2 rules and the data requirements to ensure future compliance and accuracy.
16. Awareness of the tax issues associated with various M&A projects, for example acquisitions, disposals, refinancings, internal reorganisations and demergers.
17. An ability to work with autonomy to bring the business a new perspective, new ideas and the confidence and experience to drive the implementation of these ideas.
18. Self-motivated, ambitious and the ability to motivate and develop others in the team.
19. E-commerce / retail experience advantageous but not essential.
