About Seashell Trust
Originally founded in 1823, Seashell Trust is a nationally recognised and registered charity based in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport. The trust consists of the Royal School Manchester (RSM), Royal College Manchester (RCM), 17 residential homes, outreach, health and family services all based on one campus site. We provide care and education for children and young people (up to 25 years old) with severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory impairment, communication disorders and autism.

A specialist staff team of approx. 700 people form ‘Team Seashell’ and include speech and language therapists, audiologists, physiotherapists, teachers, swimming instructors and residential care workers who all educate, care and support the children and young adults in our care.
We are excited to be recruiting a Registered Nurse to join our Nursing team as our College Nurse. You will be joining a team of nurses that comprises of a Lead Nurse, Clinical Trainers, Mental Health Nurse, School Nurse, Peripatetic Nurse and Nursing Assistants.
As part of our Outstanding (CQC) Health team you will work within the college nursing service at Seashell providing clinical support to ensure that the complex health needs of the students are met enabling them to engage fully in their education. You will be working with young adults aged from 19 to 25 years old and will support with PEG/Gastrostomy/Tracheostomy care, epilepsy management, asthma management, diabetes management etc. You will play a fundamental role in the assessment, planning, delivery and review of nursing care for each individual student and their specific needs, supervise 2 Nursing Assistants and oversee all aspects of medication management. Currently there are 70 students attending Royal College Manchester.
The successful applicant must meet the following requirements:
* Registered Nurse (either RNLD, RGN or RMN)
* Registration with NMC
* Degree in Nursing/Healthcare or related subject is strongly preferred
* Prior experience working with children and/or young adults with complex needs/disabilities, including severe communication difficulties and associated complex disorders
* Experience of working with people with profound communication difficulties who sometimes display behaviours of distress
* Experience of working with different professional disciplines and agencies in a residential education provider – previous SEND school/college nursing experience is highly preferred
* Knowledge of Child and Adolescent Development
* Knowledge of national, local strategies pertaining to children and young people with SEND needs
* Detailed knowledge of Safeguarding procedures for children and adults
* Ability to understand the complexities of the Seashell College cohort, being professional, empathic and understanding
