Job Title: Diesel Engine Integration Technical Lead (Applications Engineering)
Salary: £63,537 - £70,000 (Depending on Experience)
Location: Peterborough

About IPSD
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.
The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen for a Caterpillar Machine Group Technical Lead to deliver vertically integrated power solutions for Caterpillar’s Building & Construction Products Division (BCP). The role acts as a single point of contact for all technical interactions with IPSD Medium Engines for assigned machine products on New Product Introduction (NPI) and current product projects.
This is a great opportunity to be involved with the introduction of innovative products and services and gain or grow customer management and engine integration experience.
What You Will Do:
* Build strong customer counterpart relationships.
* Develop a comprehensive internal network of product & process Subject Matter Experts (SME) and collaborators.
* This role will require acquiring or growing knowledge of IPSD products and services to support customer projects.
* Work closely with the BCP and IPSD Product / Engineering teams to manage & deliver internal combustion engine power system integration projects on time through the execution of the Requirements Management and Application & Installation sign-off processes.
* You will be responsible for helping align IPSD and BCP project deliverables and timelines.
* Manage technical related installation issues through the NPI development process.
* Work with the Account Managers to track product specifications and material/ development costs.
* Prepare and/or present stakeholder materials to all levels of management, using escalation appropriately.
* This is a diverse role which will require an ability to work and collaborate across cultures, time zones and roles globally.
Skills You Have:
Degree Requirement
Degree qualified or equivalent practical experience within an Engineering discipline.
Products and Services
You will be able apply knowledge of product and services appropriately to diverse situations in order to:
* Oversee machine integration and sign-off activities for multiple products or product lines.
* Coach others on key factors that differentiate offerings from that of competition.
* Monitor regulatory and environmental issues and considerations.
Technical Excellence:
The successful candidate will have demonstrable knowledge of diesel engines and aftertreatment systems and application considerations, including the ability to develop and provide solutions to technical challenges. This will involve:
* Leading power system selection and delivery of projects on time, cost and quality targets.
* Management of Application & Installation (A&I) requirements with the customer, leading to A&I sign off ahead of machine production start.
* Conducting, or contributing to, Product Engineering Manager (PEM) and Design Review / Gateway Readiness reviews, providing comprehensive updates on installation development and sign-off status, identified risks / issues and propose appropriate mitigation actions.
* Leading power system specification support through the product life cycle for assigned machines and managing associated changes.
* Mediate between Industrial Power Systems Division and BCP to maximize Enterprise value and ensure successful resolution of technical integration issues.
* Support Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) project, adding knowledge on machine installations.
* Stay informed of New Product Development issues and ensure that the impact to customers is understood and communicated.
* Mentoring others to enhance their technical competence and its application to achieve more effective technical solutions.

Requirements Analysis
Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis are necessary; the ability to elicit, analyze and record required product mechanical and performance functionality requirements.
Troubleshooting Technical Problems
This role requires knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques and the ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems. This may include use of resources such as CAD models, engineering drawings, FMEAs, manufacturing instructions / standard work, PPAPs, design change records, data logging, warranty systems and tools such as 8D, Ishikawa/Fishbone analysis and more.
Product Design and Development
This role does not include design or calibration responsibilities but requires extensive knowledge of product features; ability to influence the design, tuning, build and development of diesel engines, aftertreatment systems and construction equipment from concept through to production.
Top Candidates may demonstrate some of the following skills:
* Detailed understanding of diesel engine performance, design, field testing, manufacturing and/or quality systems.
* Knowledge of engine calibration and/or software development and calibration.
* Product design change management and associated communication requirements.
* Construction equipment design and machine development (test and validation) experience.
* Structured issue investigation and resolution management. E.g. 6 Sigma DMAIC.
Additional Info
* This role currently operates a hybrid working model; to allow for 2 remote working days per working week - this is subject to change at the discretion of the company. In the event of specific internal or customer-facing workshops you may, on occasion, be required to be on site for a full working week.
* Travel may be required up to 25%. This is typically planned several weeks in advance and is rarely required for a sustained period. In the event of a business-critical situation, you may be asked by exception to travel at short notice or extend a trip.
