Job Summary: Are you a determined engineer with a passion for software automation? At Sandvik, we like that about you We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Software Automation Engineer to maintain and develop control software for advanced machinery. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving existing control software, developing new automation features for cutting-edge equipment, and contributing to the overall strategy and roadmap for future machine control systems. The successful candidate will support the organization by applying best practices and sharing their expertise in automation, PLC programming, and machinery control, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver optimized control solutions for our global network. Key Responsibilities: Software Development & Maintenance: Maintain and optimize control software for existing machinery and develop new control software and automation features using CoDeSys V2.3/V3.5 and C++. Ensure reliable and efficient operation of automation systems in production environments. Write and troubleshoot PLC programs using IEC 61131-3 languages (e.g., ladder logic, structured text, function block diagram) with a strong emphasis on CoDeSys 3.5 System Integration & Strategy: Provide input into Sandvik’s future machine control software and automation strategy. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and integrate automation systems, hardware selection, and interfaces with new technologies and systems. Control System Design: Develop control systems and software to meet the demands of industrial equipment. Implement scalable, efficient, and reliable control solutions that meet safety and performance standards. Debugging & Troubleshooting: Diagnose, debug, test, and amend control software for machinery, using tools and methods suitable for both industrial and mobile machinery control environments. Continuous Improvement: Promote continuous improvement by sharing best practices, supporting colleagues, and ensuring that automation processes exceed relevant standards and codes. Global Support: Provide technical support during commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting at Sandvik sites worldwide. This role will involve occasional travel to international locations, trade shows, and exhibitions. Essential Criteria: Education: University degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent qualifications and experience. Technical Experience: - 3 Years experience in the development of control software as part of an overall machinery control system. - Proficient in CoDeSys V2.3/V3.5 and C++ for PLC programming and automation control. - Experience with HMI development and interface architecture. - Strong knowledge of industrial/mobile machinery communication protocols, including CAN, CANOpen, and J1939. Practical Skills: - Experience with automation systems for machinery control, including the ability to diagnose, test, and troubleshoot software issues in real-world environments. - Theoretical and practical expertise in electrical and automation engineering. - Experience with industrial or mobile electrical automation systems. Desirable Criteria: Industry Experience: - Experience with mobile machinery drivetrain systems, engine/generator integration, and the crushing and screening industry. Additional Skills: - Knowledge of additional communication protocols, such as Modbus and Profibus. - Experience with QT for HMI development.
