Public Health Midwife - Smoking Cessation
Exciting opportunities are available for experienced, enthusiastic, dynamic, and motivated Public Health Midwife Stop Smoking. This role will contribute to the provision of our Stop Smoking in Pregnancy service, delivered across the county of Staffordshire.
The main functions of this role are:
1. Be responsible for supporting the Stop Smoking in Pregnancy service to deliver and develop the programme throughout Staffordshire.
2. Deliver face-to-face and virtual appointments for all those eligible for the Stop Smoking in Pregnancy service, using behaviour change techniques to promote a healthy pregnancy and create a smokefree household.
3. Work with Maternity Tobacco Dependency Advisors, Maternity units, Midwives, and other stakeholders to increase referrals and reduce health inequalities in pregnant people, household members/partners, and post-pregnancy.
The successful candidate will:
* Have the ability to be flexible and work under pressure to achieve service delivery targets.
* Have at least a minimum of 2 years experience of working within a hospital and/or community midwifery setting.
* Have a relevant degree/postgraduate degree in Nursing, or equivalent/Registered Midwife (NMC).
* Have awareness and understanding of Saving Babies Lives v3, Element 1 Reducing smoking in pregnancy.
Main duties of the job
As a Public Health Midwife, you will:
1. Support the Stop Smoking in Pregnancy service to deliver and develop the programme throughout Staffordshire.
2. Deliver face-to-face and virtual appointments for eligible clients, using behaviour change techniques.
3. Collaborate with stakeholders to increase referrals and reduce health inequalities.

Person Specification
1. SKILLS & ABILITIES
* Knowledge of public health policy, the wider determinants of health, and health promotion.
* Ability to work independently and manage own workload.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Proven planning, organisational, and evaluation skills.
* Ability to deliver training specifically around smoking cessation in pregnancy.
2. KNOWLEDGE
* Knowledge of the risks and harms of smoking in pregnancy and secondhand smoke.
* Knowledge of local services and clinical pathways.
* Understanding the barriers to smoking cessation in local communities.
* Awareness of Saving Babies Lives v3, Element 1 Reducing smoking in pregnancy.
3. EXPERIENCE
* At least 2 years experience in a hospital and/or community midwifery setting.
* Experience in maternal public health services.
* Demonstrated commitment to high-quality service delivery.
4. QUALIFICATIONS
* Registered Midwife (NMC).
5. DESIRABLES
* NCSCT Smoking Practitioner registered (or willingness to obtain).
* NCSCT VBA training modules.
* Making Every Contact Count (MECC) Training.
6. SPECIAL CONDITIONS
* Motivated self-starter with resilience and determination.
* Role may require evening/weekend work and travel across Staffordshire.
* Full UK Driving licence and access to a car for work.
* This post involves working with vulnerable adults and requires an enhanced DBS check.
Salary
£35,000 to £40,000 per annum pro-rata.
