Perisher’s Skitube Alpine Railway system is a rack / cog railway of Swiss design and provides all weather access to the resort, travelling from Bullocks Flat to Perisher Valley and Blue Cow Mountain. It is one of the longest underground train tunnels in Australia and travels as deep as 550m underground.
The Skitube train driver role is dynamic, with day-to-day activities influenced by variables such as weather conditions, passenger volumes, and operational needs. As a dedicated train driver, you will play a crucial role in operating our trains with vigilance, prioritizing safety, and adhering to the operational rules of the railway, as outlined in relevant policies, procedures, and Rail Safety National Law National Regulations 2012.
Your responsibilities will extend to maintaining competencies in train driving, train control, and emergency response, actively engaging in ongoing training opportunities. Skitube train drivers are also pivotal in guest interactions, providing information and assistance as needed, contributing to an overall positive passenger experience.
Important information to consider before you apply :
Successful applicants will be required to undertake and pass a pre-employment medical, including drug testing. Skitube Train Drivers are required to adhere to National and State Rail Safety Law 2012, including random and targeted testing for the presence of drugs and alcohol and must be 0.00% BAC while on duty.
Train Drivers must be available for driver training on 31st March.
In a typical day in this role, you might :
1. Operate the Skitube train in accordance with established schedules and adherence to operational rules and railway policies.
2. Be prepared to respond to any emergencies or unexpected situations, such as equipment malfunctions or adverse weather conditions.
3. Complete necessary documentation, including shift reports, maintenance logs, and incident reports.
4. Contribute to a positive passenger experience through effective communication and customer-focused interactions.
To be considered for this role, you should have :
1. A current, unrestricted driver's licence
2. The ability to maintain concentration and to work well under pressure
3. Excellent customer service and communication skills
4. A willingness to undertake ongoing training and development activities
5. Previous experience in the Rail Industry is highly regarded
