Birmingham Wheelchair Service is part of the Equipment & Technology Group within Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The service is based out of the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre, however runs clinics and home visits across the whole of Birmingham. The team is made up of a service manager, administrators, therapy lead, rehabilitation engineers, allied health professionals, an assistant practitioner and a wheelchair technician. Wheelchairs are provided to a range of children and adults ranging from standard wheelchairs to bespoke customised seating in order to improve the patient’s quality of life and independence.
Birmingham Wheelchair Service is looking for a full time 12 month fixed term band 4 clinical triage assistant practitioner within the service. If you are enthusiastic and passionate and are looking to increase your skills and knowledge of wheelchairs then this role would be ideal for you.
The successful candidate must be highly motivated, with relevant experience of working with people with disabilities and meets the essential criteria as laid out in the job description.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will actively undertake delegated elements of triage, assessment and ongoing intervention to clients requiring a range of basic equipment including wheelchairs, pressure cushions and accessories. The post holder will work collaboratively with therapists and multi-disciplinary staff such as Rehabilitation Engineers to ensure the needs of clients are met within the clinical area.
The post holder will deliver training and teaching to ensure safe and effective use of equipment as well as assessing and fitting equipment/accessories and cushions within their scope of practice.
The post holder will triage referrals, ensuring they meet service criteria, gather information, liaise with patients and order equipment as required.

Qualifications
* NVQ 3/ BTEC or equivalent in health related subject
* English & Maths GCSE (Grade C or equivalent)
* Evidence of continuing professional development
Experience
* Relevant experience of working with people with disabilities.
* Relevant experience of working as part of a team.
* Experience of working with minimal supervision & dealing with any issues that will require exercising judgment.
* Relevant experience of working with disability equipment.
* Experience of working in a health or community setting
Skills/knowledge
* Awareness of complex disability
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – face-to-face, on the telephone and via electronic media (e.g. email)
* Ability to teach clients, relatives and staff safe and effective use of related equipment
* Ability to demonstrate written skills that are relevant, accurate, concise and legible.
* Ability to work independently as well as within the community setting
* Competent IT skills and computer literate
* Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and delegate when necessary. Evidence of time management
