Sessional £18.33-£20.00 per hour Depending on skills, knowledge and experience
Come and join our team working directly with the public at life defining moments. It is a unique and privileged role. You will have a variety of work and be part of documenting the social history of Havering. You will be part of the Bereavement & Registration Service team working on a casual basis offering a professional and dedicated service to customers - to register marriages and civil partnerships, births, deaths and still births (deputising as needed for the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages), conduct marriages and civil partnerships and to perform other celebratory services and to provide timely and accurate registrations according to statute.
Some of the main functions of the role are:
1. To ensure all births, deaths and stillbirths occurring in the Havering Registration District are registered legally within the recommended timescale and in accordance with performance targets.
2. To register Marriages & Civil Partnerships solemnized at Langtons House and attend and register marriages at places of worship and other Approved Premises within the London Borough of Havering. Interview couples prior to the ceremony to ascertain the correct details and legalities are met.
3. Deputise for the Superintendent Registrar in performing marriages, Civil Partnerships, Private & Group Citizenship Ceremonies.
4. Perform Renewal of Vows and Welcoming ceremonies as a celebrant.
5. Book and carry out Deed Poll and Certificate of Existence Appointments.
6. Undertake General Office duties, including answering telephones, dealing with reception enquiries, answering emails.
7. Prepare and issue Birth, Death, Marriage and Civil Partnership Certificates, ensuring correct fee has been collected.
8. Provide a Tell Us Once Service.
9. Deal with and complete correction applications in accordance with guidelines issued by the Registrar General, ensuring we have collected the correct payment and submitted the relevant evidence.
10. Take bookings and payments for all ceremonies and hall bookings, completing and sending all relevant paperwork.
11. Attend open evenings and or wedding fairs on a rota basis.
12. Book and conduct ceremony rehearsals.
13. Work on a rota basis on Bank Holidays to cover emergency call out.
About You
1. You should have excellent communication skills, smart appearance, and a friendly and positive character.
2. The ability to speak confidently in public is essential, together with the ability to understand and apply rules and procedures.
3. Able to evidence competent use of standard software packages.
4. You need good communication and organisational skills, to maintain accurate records and to deal with unexpected situations.

NB: Under the Births, Deaths and Marriages Regulations 1968 the following are disqualified from being a registrar: Non-Discharged Bankrupt, Authorised Person, Secretary of Synagogues or Registering Officer for the Society of Friends, Minister of Religion, Medical Practitioner, Midwife, Undertaker or persons involved in the burial or cremation business or anyone engaged in the business of life insurance.
