Job Summary
The NHS Trust is seeking a skilled and qualified Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join the department and support the delivery of high-quality patient care. This role requires a consultant with solid clinical experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. The Locum Consultant will manage both routine and complex cases, ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Care
o Provide comprehensive care for obstetrics and gynaecology patients, including assessment, diagnosis, and management.
o Oversee antenatal, perinatal, and postnatal care, managing both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies.
o Perform a range of procedures, including C-sections, instrumental deliveries, emergency surgeries, and elective gynaecological surgeries as needed.
o Conduct outpatient consultations, diagnostics, and minor procedures.
o Participate in the on-call rota, providing 24-hour support for obstetric and gynaecological emergencies.
2. Quality Assurance and Patient Safety
o Follow NHS Trust policies and clinical guidelines, promoting patient safety and quality care.
o Engage in clinical audits, patient safety reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
o Monitor patient outcomes, participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, and contribute to updating clinical guidelines.
3. Multidisciplinary Collaboration
o Work closely with midwives, junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure integrated and comprehensive care.
o Lead and participate in handovers, ward rounds, and case reviews.
o Engage with primary care providers and external services to coordinate patient care across the healthcare system.
4. Teaching and Training
o Educate and supervise junior doctors, midwives, medical students, and other healthcare staff.
o Participate in training sessions, departmental teaching, and assessments to support trainee development.
o Offer mentorship and professional guidance to support the progression and skills of junior colleagues.
5. Administrative and Leadership Duties
o Attend departmental and Trust meetings, contributing to strategic planning and service development.
o Support the department in addressing resource needs and optimizing service delivery.
o Lead and participate in initiatives aimed at improving patient flow, reducing wait times, and enhancing patient satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
* Medical Degree: MBBS or an equivalent medical qualification recognized by the General Medical Council (GMC).
* Full GMC Registration with a License to Practice: Must hold full GMC registration and a valid license to practice in the UK.
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or Equivalent: CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, or eligibility for the Specialist Register through the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) route.
* Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) or Equivalent: MRCOG or an equivalent qualification recognized by the UK, ensuring knowledge and competence in the specialty.
* Advanced Life Support Certifications: Current certification in Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) or equivalent obstetric emergency training, such as PROMPT (Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training).
* Extensive Clinical Experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology: Minimum of five years of postgraduate experience in obstetrics and gynaecology, with proven expertise in managing complex obstetric cases, high-risk pregnancies, and performing advanced gynaecological surgeries.
* Competency in Key Obstetric and Gynaecological Procedures: Demonstrated expertise in performing C-sections, instrumental deliveries, and a range of gynaecological procedures.
* Desirable Additional Qualifications: Fellowship or subspecialty training in maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive medicine, minimally invasive gynaecological surgery, or similar area of expertise.
