We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated clinical coder to join our friendly, well-established and highly achieving GP Practice here at Bewick Crescent.
The position is for up to 20 hours per week // NHSPension // 5 weeks annual leave pro rata + Bank Holidays.

Job purpose:
The role of Clinical Coder will be to accurately code clinical information from documents and letters, adding the appropriate codes to the patients record in our clinical system, (SystmOne) and then determining whether they should be forwarded to the GP or another member of the Practice team to action. The post holder will play a significant and important role in reducing the administrative workload for GPs and help us continue to provide an excellent service to our patients.
Main duties of the job
1. Read through the documents/letters, code the appropriate entries into clinical system using SystmOne, updating patient summary as necessary and determine whether information should be forwarded to the GP/ other healthcare professional for them to view/action.
2. Accurately coding clinical documents, including diagnostic test results, follow up, etc.
3. Undertaking triage to determine which documents need to be passed to a GP or other healthcare professional where their input is required.
4. Ensure relevant information is added to patient summary/problem page.
5. Send tasks, as appropriate, to GPs and other healthcare professionals via the clinical system.
6. Liaise and communicate, as appropriate, with other colleagues in the Practice, for example Clinical Staff, Secretaries, Administrative staff by way of tasks sent from the clinical system.
7. Monitor the number of outstanding electronic documents and tasks, ensuring that these are actioned in a timely manner. Liaise with your Line Manager if there are any capacity issues in dealing with these so that support, as required, can be provided.
8. Prioritise urgent or clinically risky work over routine.
9. Aim to clear electronic documents within a set timeframe.
10. Adhere to our Practice Policies and national guidelines.

* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths

* Good knowledge of medical terminology
