An exciting 12 month secondment has arisen for a suitably qualified HCPC registered individual to become a member of the Derbyshire Pathology Clinical Biochemistry Team as a full time Senior Biomedical Scientist in the Specialist Clinical Biochemistry section at the Royal Derby Hospital.
Applicants for the post will need to be enthusiastic, maintain and develop high standards of quality and enjoy working as part of a team as well as being able to work alone under their own initiative.
Understanding of UKAS ISO 15189 standards, staff training, Health & Safety requirements, and analytical troubleshooting techniques is essential.
The Biochemistry Laboratory provides a wide range of assays on our state-of-the-art Roche Cobas analytical platforms (Cobas 8000 and Cobas 6000), linked with both pre-analytics (Roche MPA 8100) and post-analytics (Roche p612 RSA), and also on our Phadia ImmunoCap250 platforms, giving plenty of variety in our busy automated laboratory. We also have a Specialist laboratory providing a proteins service, using agarose gel and capillary zone electrophoresis (Sebia Hydrasys and Capillarys), together with HPLC Chromsystems, and Sciex Tandem MS .
As part of a University Hospital the training and development of staff is one of our five Trust objectives. You will be provided with support in your professional career development and encouraged to be involved in the development of others.
As a Health Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist, to lead and supervise the day to day delivery of a diagnostic service, within the specialist clinical biochemistry section of Clinical Biochemistry, which includes tandem mass spectrometry, HPLC, capillary zone, agar gel and isoelectric focusing electrophoresis and specific protein analysis.
To provide advanced Biomedical Science technical support within a section by providing training, advice, technical development, troubleshooting and supervision
To prepare, and process diagnostic investigations on biological specimens in accordance with agreed protocols and standard operational procedures (SOP) ensuring the department maintains standards for UKAS (ISO15189), Health and Care Professions Council, Institute of Biomedical Science, and Health and Safety regulations.
Provides training to staff, updating training documents, and ensuring training is undertaken according to the training policy and training programmes of the department to maintain IBMS training approval and UKAS standards.
