As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a commercially astute Managing Quantity Surveyor (MQS) to support our work on the Severn Trent Water Framework, delivering essential infrastructure to support the region's water and wastewater network. Role Overview: The Managing Quantity Surveyor will take a leading commercial role within the project delivery team, managing the commercial and contractual aspects of multiple projects under the Severn Trent Water Framework. This role demands strong leadership, robust contract knowledge, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. You will oversee a team of Quantity Surveyors and be responsible for driving value, ensuring compliance, and supporting the successful financial delivery of all works. Key Responsibilities: Oversee all commercial aspects of the project lifecycle, from tender through to final account, across multiple concurrent projects Manage a team of Quantity Surveyors, supporting their development and ensuring the accuracy and quality of their outputs Provide commercial leadership and support to project teams to ensure robust cost control, accurate forecasting, and value for money Lead procurement of subcontract packages, including preparation of tender documents, evaluation of submissions, and contract award Chair regular subcontractor progress and commercial meetings, ensuring alignment with contractual obligations and project objectives Administer NEC3 and NEC4 contracts in accordance with their terms, including managing early warnings, compensation events, and risk registers Prepare and validate interim valuations, applications for payment, cost reports, accruals, and final accounts Ensure compliance with internal reporting processes, procedures, and governance Act as the key point of contact for commercial queries with the client, subcontractors, and other stakeholders Support change control processes and commercial negotiations Champion a culture of continuous improvement and commercial awareness within the delivery teamRequirements: Essential: Demonstrable experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction or civil engineering industry, ideally in a contractor environment Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts Familiarity with Construction Law, including contractual obligations and dispute resolution Proven experience in the commercial management of subcontractors, including chairing meetings and the full measurement and control cycle Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commercial mindset Excellent communication and negotiation skills Proficient in relevant IT systems and software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, CEMAR, COINS, etc.) Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the Severn Trent Water regionDesirable: Experience working on water industry frameworks or with water utility clients (e.g., Severn Trent, Thames Water, Anglian Water) Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or related discipline Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB) or working toward chartershipBenefits: Competitive salary dependent on experience Car allowance or company vehicle Company pension scheme 25 days annual leave bank holidays Get in touch today (phone number removed) (url removed)
