UoB Online is an ambitious team within the University, comprised of both academic and professional services staff. The team supports the development and delivery of a portfolio of online programmes that make our world-leading teaching and research accessible to lifelong learners across the globe.
Role Summary
The Learning Technologist will play a key role in supporting the design, development, and delivery of online learning courses for the University of Birmingham. Working collaboratively with learning designers, other professional services staff and academic staff, you will use your expertise in learning technologies to enhance the student learning experience through effective integration of digital tools and pedagogy.
Main Duties
* Provide technical advice and support for the use of virtual learning environments (VLEs), multimedia, and other digital tools, resolving issues and escalating when necessary.
* Help create digital learning materials (including video, graphics and interactive experiences) as required.
* Evaluate and recommend the use of the University’s learning technologies to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment in our online courses.
* Contribute to quality assurance processes, including the evaluation of online courses and learning activities.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends and innovations in educational technology through research and professional development.
* Identify and embrace opportunities for collaboration with other projects and initiatives across the University.
* In conjunction with other team members, assist with the design and delivery of workshops and training courses as required.
* Identify patterns of usage to help inform future activity.
* Promote equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.
* Work in an agile and flexible manner, supporting with resourcing needs across the unit as required.
Person Specification
* Values driven, aligning behaviour with the core University of Birmingham values; ambitious, innovative, open, collaborative, and responsible.
* Demonstrable experience supporting the development and delivery of technology-enhanced learning in a higher education setting.
* Proficiency in using VLEs and a range of learning technologies.
* Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive practices in digital education.
* A good understanding and experience of web technologies such as HTML5, CSS.
* Strong inter-personal and communication skills.
