Job Description:
Leonardo has an excellent opportunity for a Software Quality Engineer to join our Integrated Sensing and Protection (ISP) Line of Business at our Basildon/Southampton site. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting key programmes within the ISP domain, ensuring quality is embedded at the design stage and maintained throughout the product lifecycle.

What You’ll Do as a Senior Quality Engineer – Software:
* Risk and Opportunity Management: Identify software-related risks, threats, and opportunities across the Integrated Sensing and Protection (ISP) domain to proactively mitigate challenges and implement improvements.
* Project Assurance Planning: Define and agree on the software portion of Project Assurance Plans (PAPs), ensuring software assurance activities align with project risks, opportunities, and improvement strategies. Support Quality Assurance (QA) aspects of Software Development Plans (SDPs).
* Supplier Management & Oversight: Collaborate with the Procurement Lead to develop a Supplier Management Plan for software outsourcing activities. Identify key supplier risks related to selection and contract execution. Define and implement a supplier surveillance plan for monitoring performance. Establish and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to track supplier effectiveness.
* Audit and Compliance: Support internal and external audits of software development processes to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
* Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Define, track, and report KPIs to inform data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
* Software Assurance Expertise: Provide specialist assurance support across various projects and programmes, ensuring adherence to quality standards and best practices.
What we need from you:
* Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to effectively prioritise and manage multiple tasks in parallel under tight deadlines.
* Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
* In-depth knowledge of specific software processes and a thorough understanding of the relevant business domain.
* Comprehensive expertise in key industry standards and processes, such as Mil Std-2167A, Mil Std-498, Def Stan 05-95, AQAP 150/2210, and DO-178C.
* Proficiency in software tools for requirements management, configuration management, testing, code coverage, and static analysis.
* Ability to challenge or respond to challenges regarding Software Quality Assurance issues while effectively leading the Software PAE team.
* Ability to identify and implement solutions for software quality issues based on extensive knowledge and experience.
* Experience in Quality Assurance or Project Assurance within a design and manufacturing environment, preferably in the Defence, Aviation, or Automotive industries.
* Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall development methodologies.
* Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally as required.
