About the role This is an exciting time to join the Researcher School as we strive to enhance PGR provision and support at Sussex. In this critical, cross-cutting role, you will work with colleagues across the University to develop a high-compliance culture in the postgraduate researcher (PGR) space, helping to underpin a consistently high-quality experience for Sussex’s PGRs. Working closely with colleagues in a range of key professional services and academic roles, you will take the lead on PGR quality assurance, policy and governance business, including: providing information, advice and guidance on all matters relating to PGR quality assurance to ensure regulatory compliance; monitoring adherence to institutional and regulatory standards, assessing risks, and promoting good practice; leading and/or advising on the development of policy, programmes and partnerships, including transnational education collaborations; managing the University’s PGR governance entities, and the University’s portfolio of research degrees. About you Drawing on your experience from similar roles, you will have a detailed knowledge and understanding of PGR quality assurance, policy and governance, including experience in writing, reviewing, interpreting and applying policies. You will be proactive in keeping up to date with developments in the sector, and able to identify opportunities for Sussex to adopt – and where possible lead – sector best practice. You will utilise your well-developed interpersonal skills to quickly build rapport and effectively influence and persuade outside formalised line management structures and across institutional boundaries. You will also have experience balancing the expectations of external stakeholders with internal stakeholders’ needs and appetite for risk. More generally, you will be able to communicate clearly and present complex policy and procedure in a way that can be understood by the intended audience. You will be detail-oriented and analytical, including being confident in managing, analysing and presenting both quantitative and qualitative data. Self-motivated, your excellent planning skills will be key to organising your time, while also critical to managing the cycle of institutional PGR governance business.
