An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Orthotist, to join the Orthotics department at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust set within Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals which, are within commutable distance of Liverpool, Chester and Manchester as well as neighbouring North Wales.
The role is suitable for those with orthotic experience looking to develop their skills within a supportive and nurturing environment. This is a friendly, dynamic orthotic team and a great opportunity to gain experience working in an acute hospital setting. The successful candidate will have dedicated CPD time as well as working closely with more experienced team members to enhance knowledge and develop clinical skills.
This is a varied clinical role with inpatient and outpatient clinics and cover a range of areas including: orthopaedic foot and ankle, diabetic foot, neurology, paediatric and traumatic spinal injury. The team at WUTH work closely with their medical and AHP colleagues.
The successful candidate will be part of a team of 5 Orthotists and have access to an on site workshop, the use of digital workflow and will be encouraged to explore innovative technology. It is a team where clinicians are encouraged to be actively involved in their own development and the improvement of the department.
Key Responsibilities
• To manage own clinical caseload including more complex cases.
• To attend clinics, including externally to the Trust, as required or as delegated by senior colleagues.
• Responsible for referral and liaison to other disciplines to provide optimum patient care. Recognising where alternative interventions may be appropriate and ensuring inclusion of members from multidisciplinary teams where complex treatment plans or patient pathways are required.
• To communicate effectively with patients, carers and families, GPs, Consultants and AHP’s with regard to clinical care both in direct contact and through clinical letters and reports within a duty of care.
• To maintain a current knowledge of relevant clinical pathologies to be able to devise the most appropriate prescriptions.
• Responsible for keeping up to date with relevant clinical research, best practice and professional guidelines.
• Responsible for own continued professional development and providing feedback and training to colleagues through reflective practice, clinical meetings, supervision and mentorship.
• Responsible for contributing towards patient or departmental information and best practice guidance.
• Assist with the teaching and training of students, technical staff and other professionals as required.
• To contribute to audit projects as appropriate in line with local standards and best practice or to participate in research projects as appropriate and in liaison with a lead researcher.
