To provide a regular reliable and efficient Street Cleaning (Gully) service, operating specialist vehicles and equipment to the residents, businesses and visitors of Hull. Cleaning and maintaining up to 65,000 gullies per year throughout Hull. To undertake general maintenance and repair works of watercourses to ensure their efficiency and prevent flooding.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Deliver a regular and reliable service, to ensure the completion of all scheduled daily work and all urgent requests in line with safe working practices. Conducting assessments of new and temporary employees as required. Reporting any unresolved issues or problem areas affecting crew performance to Manager or Customer Relations along with corrective action. Responsible for route planning and the wearing of the correct necessary Personal Protection Equipment. To communicate via Mobex any urgent information to other crews, Area Manager or Customer Relations.
To undertake appropriate works on watercourses within the city to ensure these are kept free of debris, sluices are in good working order and screens are kept clear. To provide front line 24 hour, 365 day per year response to emergency call outs to incidents involving imminent flooding. To clear blockages and flooding from drains. First in attendance at flooding incidents as a result of overflowing drains and dealing professionally with upset/angry residents.
Driving and operating a 17 tonne Low Volume combination specialist machine carrying out various tasks including using vacuum and pressure systems and high and low water pressure jetting apparatus - this equipment needs constant regulation and regular maintenance.
Attending to specific requests from the public who may have lost something down the gully e.g. car keys and from the Police who may need assistance with an investigation and are in search of evidence, in which case confidentiality must be maintained. To participate in special projects i.e. 100 day clean up and Hull Fair.
Drive a wide range of vehicles (11, 17 & 26 tonne Large Goods Vehicles) in areas of extremely tight access in all weather conditions and ensure the completion of all daily work, the safety of crew and members of the public. To ensure the vehicle is operated legally at all times with the reference to Road Traffic Acts, Health & Safety and the Environment Protection Act 1990 in particular vehicle weights and waste carried.
To be responsible for own vehicle include ng daily & weekly maintenance checks and recording vehicle checks, defects, mileage and driving hours etc. as required, ensuring all loads are legal and sign as a true record.
Reporting suspected urgent vehicle faults to Management and wait with vehicle for breakdown assistance or drive vehicle to vehicle workshops if safe.
To drive any vehicle on any reasonable task as directed by Manager. Including but not restricted to delivery and setting up of surface water pumps to prevent flooding.
To provide the 'Winter Maintenance' priority service as appropriate, attending to priority areas, hospitals, school entrances, shopping areas and pensioners' bungalows on the suspension of Street Cleansing or as appropriate to ensure public safety during icy weather conditions.
