Planning, Insight and Analytics are seeking two exceptional Data Analysts to join our hard-working, supportive and friendly Data Analytics team. We have two vacancies available: one full-time permanent role focused on admissions data and student numbers' forecasts, and one full-time fixed-term role for two years with focus on domestic league tables and student journey.
The successful candidates will deliver data-driven insight to support decision-making at the highest level, and will benefit from working within a team culture which focuses on finding sustainable, innovative solutions to data challenges, and maximising opportunities for improvement.

The Data Analyst role will support the work of the Planning, Insight and Analytics (PIA) department at the University of Glasgow. PIA sits at the heart of University Services and provides data and analysis to support decision-making at the highest level. This role sits within PIA’s Data Analytics team. The job holders will be responsible for a wide range of insight generation on (but not limited to) student applications and admissions pipelines, league table analysis, and learning & teaching strategy, in addition to horizon scanning on key events that may impact on the Higher Education sector and our position.
The post requires the holder to be comfortable extracting and analysing data, explaining patterns, developing analytic models and effectively communicating the stories found within data. In return for your valuable data expertise, you will benefit from working within a talented, supportive Data Analytics team, and in close collaboration with a range of experienced data practitioners including data governance, data engineering, data science and strategic planning.
Main Duties
1. Deliver statistically robust insight and analysis into all areas of the University’s activity, such as learning and teaching metrics, the student journey through continuation and graduation, research quality, grant awards and bibliometrics.
2. Support the University governance and management structures by providing reports and insight to committees that allows us to understand the experience of our students, graduates, staff, our activities relating to research, and other operational aspects.
3. Act as the focal point and subject matter expert for one or more dimensions (e.g. league tables, equality and diversity monitoring) of the analysis provided by the Planning, Insight and Analytics team.
4. Responsible for communicating across the University at all levels the insight and outputs of analysis undertaken.
5. Engagement with key stakeholders and working collaboratively with colleagues to investigate and highlight areas of best practice and poor performance.
6. Establish and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the University’s academic provision and outputs to be able to accurately prioritise, inform and present integrated analysis.
7. Compile and translate data into engaging data stories that identify key messages and trends, ensuring that analysis is appropriate for each audience – ranging from senior management to school staff.
8. Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Planning Insight & Analytics function to use the most appropriate technology to carry out, present and issue analysis and insight across the university. Contribute to the wider Planning Insight & Analytics strategic direction.
9. Represent the team at meetings, external groups/conferences and seminars to keep up to date with national developments and gain and share information/knowledge of working practices in the higher education context.

Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential:
1. Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles. Or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).
2. Knowledge of analytical techniques.

Experience
Essential:
1. Experience of working with data and producing a range of data analysis.
2. Experience of working with data visualisation / business intelligence software (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik Sense, Business Objects).
Desirable:
1. Previous experience in similar analysis role.
2. Knowledge of reproducible data science techniques (using for example SQL, Python or R) and robust approaches to working collaboratively with data.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £40,247 - £45,163 per annum.
We have two posts available in this role: one full-time open ended post, and one full-time fixed-term post for two years. Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.
